London Bus Lanes - Good News
« on: 23, December, 2011, 07:33:18 AM »
In case people don't know - here is some good news about the trial re motorcycles and bus lanes:

"Motorcyclists will be given the permanent right to use bus lanes in the capital after a trial run showed it reduced congestion and improved safety, transport chiefs said today.
Mayor Boris Johnson ordered the 18-month trial of the scheme - the second to be done - last year. Cyclists have warned the measure is dangerous and risks lives.
But Ben Plowden, director of better routes and places at Transport for London, said: "The two trials have shown reduced journey times and environmental benefits with no significant safety issues for motorcyclists and other vulnerable road users.
"Additional enforcement measures also helped reduce average speeds for riders in bus lanes, delivering benefits for all road users."
Steve Kenward, chief executive of the Motorcycle Industry Association, said: "Like cyclists, motorcycle users face vulnerabilities bus lane use helps to mitigate. We support TfL's recognition of motorcycling as part of the strategy to smooth traffic flow and cut CO2." "

If only this happened years ago, could have saved people like myself money. It has taken around 6-7 years for this to come in and I do feel this was around 6 years too long! But going in the right direction now :-)
Hope you are making jokes and have a smile on your face my Danish diplomatic friend. Long may your memory live!

Today I heard an advert warning car drivers about Motorbikes being allowed in red route bus lanes... the times they are a changing.
People will forget what you have said and they will forget what you have done--but they will never forget the way you made them feel.
