Life is very very fragile, but even if we devote ourselves to making it risk free, some poor sod gets cancer or finds out they were born with a heart defect etc.
Say thank you to God, or whatever, or just say 'thank you', if you make it to bed time.
Say thank you to God, or whatever, or just say 'thank you', when you find yourself awake in the morning.
Say thank you to God, or whatever, or just say 'thank you', for friends, family (all who suffer pain, sickness and loss in their own lives)
Say thank you to God, or whatever, or just say 'thank you', every time you get off your bike (in a controlled manner :-) )
Say thank you to God, or whatever, or just say 'thank you', every time it isn't so controlled, but you're still around to tell the tale.
If you've ridden for a year or two, like me, you've probably lost count of the close calls. I have been very lucky. I am stupid enough to take that luck for granted now and then, but most of the time I know.
Alex, you have my best wishes, and I am grateful for your concern and compassionate reminder of the fragility of my body.
My Dad signed the HP papers as guarrantor for my first bike when I was 17. At the time, you could ride from the bike shop, with no training, on a 250cc bike, capable of 100mph. I lost a couple of my friends in those first years. He thought I'd be one of them.
Thirty years on, I still love that on bike feeling. I say 'thank you' to my bike every time I get off it. I say sorry to it when I notice how grubby it looks and I know I've been neglecting it again.
There will always be casualties. The roads are busy and dangerous. So take care, but remember to enjoy life and remember to say 'Thank you'.
