bobike power awesome
« on: 20, August, 2010, 05:24:48 PM »
so i've spent a lot of this week using pedal power!  Tube to Whitechapel, then 3.5 - 4miles to Covent Garden, and same on way back.

my legs are killing me! done around 35 miles on the boris bikes this week, plus 24 more on mon/tue using a bike to get from harlow to epping.

next week: borisbikes mon-fri for around 35miles, and maybe around 50ish on the harlow/epping section.

After that, i'll be working in Paddington, which will bump my boris bike mileage right up to about 60 miles...

the bikes arent bad, rather heavy though, and about half a mile into the journey, the legs start to feel it! after another half mile or so, you just forget about it and crack on. down to sub 20 minutes now, and recorded an 11.8mph average yesterday over the 4 mile trip to Whitechapel Stn... i was laying down the power awesome!

So if you see a loon on a boris, trying to race everything away from the lights, gimme a wave! rough route: CG, aldwych, along fleet st, past st pauls, along cannon st, aldgate, a11.

dont toot though, i'll shit meself...

ps. went up a kerb when lights went against me, nearly had an incident with a jogger.  Dont tell Jetstream ;)

Well done you - you sure won't have any excess weight - you must be eating for England to meet the calories needed for the riding! :) :)

PS:   I'm sure noone will tell JS  ;D

Nice one Daz.

Cycling will reduce your flexibility, so get back into some stretching buddy.  Also, if you end up in a confrontation, you could dismount with a spinning hook kick, which will probably mean that the confrontation is immediately over, so you can mount up and carry on with your journey.

Careful that you don't catch your trousers on the pedals or handlebars while executing the spinning hook kick. There's no telling the trouble that could get you into.
I might be slow, but I'm behind you!

@weaver - yeah, been necking the protein mixed in full fat milk big time, having to up my daily cal intake by around 600+ additional cals... saving a fortune on the tube, spending a fortune on body fuel!  But my normal daily cal intake is much higher than average anyway, thats just the way my metabolism works... usually hit around 3000 a day. any less, and i lose weight fast!

@aceman - my flexibility has never been great... maybe i can hire a rack from the london dungeoun? that would sort out the stretching!

@george - shorts. no fear of catching pedals or bars!

still looking at a minimum of 80 miles next week as a target. But not if it rains... lol

I've been cycling up to Covent Garden a few times too, I can't go running anymore so cycling, swimming and sex are now my only forms of exercise. Not tried a Borismobile though.

I've also got an electric bike now which is great, no need for number plate/insurance/crash helmet etc, no parking tickets, no speeding tickets (fat chance of doing 30mph except off a cliff). I look a complete wally on it, which adds to the fun. It's got a shopping basket on the front and everything. Hell on speed bumps though.

It would probably be best if I didn't say anything about riding it on the pavement.

yep, i think when i'm at Paddington, the plan will be to put my road bike in the car, drive half way (ie. chingford) then park the car and cycle the rest into Paddington, weather permitting!  I'm just slowly getting my wet/dark weather gear purchased...
