Margate Meltdown and Motorcycle Crash Cards
« on: 01, June, 2010, 10:00:47 AM »
Hi all - I did not go to the Meltdown but I grew up in Margate and I hope everyone had a good time. Not much news in the press so it must have all gone spectacularly well.
Now, in the news it says that police were handing out Motorcycle Crash Cards - we can attach a sticker to the helmet saying there is a crash card inside.

I went on a First Aid course which taught me how to safely take off a motorcycle helmet but that they should be kept on if possible in case of damaging spine/neck if taken off badly.
So what gives?

And are motorcycle crash cards a bit like PreNups? Sort of making you think you will crash and divorce?

What does the panel think!

But the fact there may be a sticker on the helmet saying there is a card IN the helmet may encourage untrained people ignorant of first aid and so on, to take off someone's helmet and break their neck!  I am sorry but I need convincing that this is a safe sensible thing to do. I have my details in my easily accessible pocket.  Someone would always look there and not break my back or neck trying to find it.

I'm with Belinda - if you put a note on that tehre is someinthing IN the helmet then people are likely to try and take it off whether they know what they are doing or not.   Better to have an ICE number in your mobile phone and let them give details.
