What can I get for £3000
« on: 13, May, 2010, 07:16:11 PM »
Ok I have decided that I want a bike, it will either be a Tenere, an Africa Twin or a BMW F650 GS Dakar.

I am more mobile than I was but have been off a geared bike for nearly 4 years now. I am determined it will be one of the above purely for practical reasons, I want a tall bike that fits me, I want something that I can sit upright on so after my op I am comfortable, and I want something which I can start touring on. I do not need a speed freak bike those that know me know I am happiest on this sort of bike.

The car is up for sale although not sold yet and I have seen a Dakar in Bradford where they will take part ex on cars if it is still there, but it is a long way away and am I certain I want a Dakar, there is an older one in London and I love the colour scheme as well. I hate making decisions I normally just go fuck it and go for it, but in this case I really need to think about this seriously. The problem being the more I think about it the more undecided I get to which one I want. I really need to test ride but as I mentioned I have not ridden a geared bike in four years I would hate to make a fool of myself and drop it on a test ride. I am not sure I should even be having a go on anything just yet but I can't keep holding myself back for much longer.

I am hoping Jasmin will leave home sometime in the next two years so I can pack my job in and head off to South America and just keep going until I run out of money. If I can work on route I will be gone for longer, to be honest if I can I will be gone forever but I have to be realistic I might get bored of it one day lol. ;)

Anyway just thinking aloud and any comments stupid or otherwise will be considered and if they are really daft I may just kick arse next time I see it......(I love ya all really) :-*

So what the F**k do I do now, behave myself and wait until after my op or go fuck it and head off to Bradford the weekend after this one if the bike is still there. (Nice Africa Twin on ebay but I think it will go to high). I can't go anywhere yet as I am housesitting Jasmin's boyfriends sisters, dog and house until next Thursday.

Oh well enough waffling speak to you all later and have fun guys.

Only joking, more like two and a half thousand in your pocket. But it's not for sale yet. It hasn't broken down enough.

Let me have a look at my customers....... I am always up an down the country, the odd few hundred mile detour won't make a difference.  So if I can get an appointment in or near Bradford then you are welcome to come along.  We can then go to the dealer and see what he has and what he can offer you for the car.  I can't do next week but after that we can hatch a plan.  As for test riding the bike... you'll have to do that as I'm rather stumpy in the leg department when compared to you  x

Bonnie to bloody small I would look like a monkey on it, nice bike though!

Tanya thanks i called it is seems that the Dakar has been used in Dubai for holiday adventure riders is the last one of 11 to sell he only offered me £!500 PX on the car no way was I taking that. I did not think you would get rust in Dubai with all the dry heat, it may have been ridden like hell so may have to think about it. I have had one of my friends trying to talk me into a VStrom, but I want to go green laning once fit so not sure it is the best bike. Saw a lovely Africa Twin on Ebay but as the car has not sold yet and seriously screwed would have loved it! Not many reasonable Tenere's for sale in my price range either.

I am fit enough to test ride right now but have been off the bike for four years now. May have to go and have a refresher with a certain person on here for a day just to make sure I don't make a fool of myself when I go try a bike. One down rest up thats right isn't it lol!

I really wish I still had the DR been looking for one for ages but no luck so far and no good for really long journey's but I did love it. Or the HP2 with a bigger petrol tank that would have been amazing to go travelling on, crap for going to work on though. I wonder where the ex is now living maybe I can go pinch the DR back, but as he has not even told his daughter where he is now I don't think there is much luck in that. Maybe I should get to the gym and bulk up so I can handle a nice BMW 1100GS, supposedly a great bike for long travel  ;) . Bugger the more i look at stuff the harder it gets to choose with the money I will have. Now if a 800GS would just fall into my lap then I would be in heaven but hey they are way to expensive. Why do I like such expensive bloody bikes so much and weird ones at that! Maybe I need a sugar daddy but to bloody old to get one these days.

Oh well enough rambling on boring you lot I will make up my mind and go see some soon, will be calling for advice when I do as never bought one myself before, they always just came home and were presented to me of course I now know there is always a price for that.

Ok everything always happens at once lol. going to see the bike tomorrow, Monday I go for my pre op and 1 June I go under the knife and will then have to stay off the bike for 6 weeks minimum lol. All the more reason to get I think!

The Bike is in W12 Shepherds Bush area and I am now getting seriously excited and very nervous!. I took the scooter out last night for the first time this year and loved the feeling of the wind in my face again. I hope I like it as much once I get there as I do right now, OK if it was the white not silver paint would be better but hey thats not a major problem. I am rambling again oh dear  :-\

I will be hiding the bike if I get it as my parents will be over on the 30 May and they will freak out if they know I have bought one, as they are coming to look after me once I get out of hospital.

Will take pictures and update everyone tonight once I have been to see it. Fingers crossed guys lets hope it is a nice as it looks!

Woo hoo!

Is there room under the bed for it. Perhaps you disguise it as a coat rack or umberella stand.

Or you could pretend you were looking after it for a friend.

Parents eh! Can't live with 'em, wouldn't be here without 'em.

Hope all goes well for you.

Cheeky boy,

OK I bought it lets hope I have not gotten a dud lol.

Once I have the cash will be picking it up and handing over the readies to the man, deposit already paid. I will then get it home clean it up and get it sorted. I managed to get it for £2000 so am well happy, it looks a little scruffy but I like that in a bike it means I don't have to worry if I throw it around when I go play off road and I will go play off road if only on gentle green lanes until I get my confidence up.

I need to adjust the height slightly I think as it seems lower than I remember but then I think he had it lowered as he was shorter than me.

Oh well here goes next week when I get it home and can drool over it some more.

Won't be long and I will be out playing on it and travelling around the UK to start with.
