I notices thatbthey were phasing in 50's about two years ago when I used to travel out to Suffolk for work.  More and more of the rods were creeping to 50's and the plod were raking it in on the new rods that had changed.
People will forget what you have said and they will forget what you have done--but they will never forget the way you made them feel.

I lived in Warwickshire until recently and they have introduced 50mph quite widely. I have mixed views about it. I don't think it will reduce accidents by many, as those who drive/ride recklessly are probably ignoring the 60mph limit anyway.

From a different perspective, reducing average speed will improve fuel economy and reduce carbon emissions. For an oil dependent country, as Tesco says, 'every little helps' in the battle to reduce our collective carbon footprint. It also improves the odds for the blackbirds and other hedge related wildlife. When I'm riding at 50 there seem to be fewer near misses with swooping birds. I've also come across a few monkjack deer on the verges. If you hit one, there's a good chance you won't walk away.

There are some fantastic stretches of A road. The Fosse Way was a favourite of mine, with fantastic sweeping curves, undulations and fast straights. I've known a couple of bikers killed, as I'm sure we all have. A farm tractor turning right killed one, the other in a head on taking a left hander slightly wide as the car coming round cut the apex.

I'm probably getting old and slow, which is why I got rid of the VTR and bought a Bonnie. Still tempted by a Daytona 675 though  :)

:(  My friend's boss lost his leg yesterday morning on the Dunchurch/Southam road, a mile from where I lived. He uses the road a lot, so should be familiar with the bends and dips.
Not clear what happened, but a car was involved. The 50mph stretch ended about half a mile earlier, not sure if that had any relevance to the crash. It's knocked a few miles an hour of my speed for the moment. I hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Me too. I think he is lucky to be alive. He's married with young children, so I hope he thinks so too and makes the most of it. It will be hard for them all to adjust.

Like I said, I'm riding a little more cautiously. A woman driving through the town saw him putting his helmet on as she went past. He overtook her shortly afterwards and then she came across the accident.

I'll think about that when I put mine on. It is a fragile life we have. Riding the bike gives me a huge amount of pleasure, but we don't know what is around the corner.

Write your will!
