Phone snatching at Arnos Grove Station
« on: 03, May, 2010, 08:37:44 PM »
Wasn't me...

I popped out to the local chippie for a bag of chips just a moment ago, and on my way back I saw some guy - early-mid 20s, mixed-race half black-white, wearing a black hoodie and black baseball cap running towards me - followed by a mainland Chinese woman, also in her 20s. As the guy was about 15 meters ahead and she was strugging to follow, I realised it wasn't a boy-girlfriend squabble, but a robbery. So with my box of chips in hand, I followed.

I got into the back streets behind them and eventually I caught up with the girl and the guy was not more than a few meters ahead of us... but we lost sight of him as he got out back into the main street opposite the Catholic church.

A few moments later I could see a figure lurking behind a big tree MUCH further up the road towards Waterfall roundabout ("Firstline Roundabout")... unfortunately we had lost sight of the perp, so even if that figure were the purp, there was no way we could catch up with him, and it was likely that he would have already passed on the phone... so that was that. I took the girl to the local Ladbrokes, told the guy behind the counter to help her as she had been robbed, he got onto the phone with the cops and there was no more I could do.

The assailant got into the estate behind Firstline... Note to self - do not leave bike outside of Firstline without a very bigass chain chaining bike to something very immovable. Gutted for that girl. And even more gutted that I didn't thump the ****. Grrr....

Dang - not the i-pad. What next? The I-ron??? :P

In hind sight it was in my favour to have not caught up with the perp... (or what I'd honestly prefer to call CU-Next-Tuesday)....

Ultimately:
I was out manouvered - he knew the turf far better than I did.

I was out gunned - I only almost caught up with him, chasing him uphill for a fair distance, he's taller and leaner, younger and faster - but I only almost caught up.

I was out classed - him and a possible accomplice were both dressed in dark clothes - dark charcoal grey, black, navy clothes with inconspicous, random patterns, with no distinguishable jewellery or facial markings. No clearly identifiable brands or logos on the clothes. Fashionable - the typical toned down Dizzie Rascal, Chipmonk type of clothing, but completely inconspicious. They were modern day urban ninjas. God knows how many of them were dotted around the place... They would blend together and not be ID'ed in "just another group of youths".

Still - I put enough pressure that he ran a fair bit further up the hill to escape. But ultimately he made the distance and I didn't, partly because I thought - sod it, I've lost visual, it wasn't my phone, I didn't know the victim, my chips were getting cold and the big Tiger beer that I had that afternoon was still making my head sway...

I recon at the point when I lost visual, he hid at a bus shelter and passed the phone to the "innocent but anxious looking" guy that came towards me and the victim, and somehow he made his way into the houses and re-emerged some 50-70 meters away running towards a wide tree but not out the other side.

I was still pissed off enough about it enough today & called the cops & gave them a few more bits of details.... It's not likely that these 2 CU-Next-Tuesdays would ever be caught for the robbery - no, apparently a phone snatching is a THEFT. How the feck? A theft is when the victim doesn't immediately realises the incident; a robbery is when the victim is aware of the event occuring but does not react fast or powerfully enough to stop it from  happening... but hey. It's probably why "violent crimes are down".

But I hope my little bit of statement helps the cops to locate him as a pattern of attacks develop.... What kind of a world do we live in?? Where are these gun toting youths when you need them? Why don't they shoot themselves dead already?

Just quite f-peeved that my local area is getting worse... :]

And I suppose being pre-mense meant I had that bit of extra aggro, hence the whole chase. LOL!!!
