Making the neighbors happy
« on: 10, March, 2010, 06:30:04 PM »
So yesterday for the 1st time since we moved, it stopped raining long enough for me to get the toys out of the garage.....

The Pontiac fired up straight away, seeing as it hasn't been run since October, and not even charged up, I was happy!!

I left it running in the drive for a while, then loaded the hound up  & went for a run round the block, as I came back, neighbor across  the street was getting out of his friends truck, he's about 75 or so,  and his eyes lit up when he saw the '51.

I pulled up & him & his buddy walked over & proceeded to  get all misty eyed over it, he saw it was a Chieftain (top of the range model) & told me I  was "Livin in high cotton" driving a Chieftain...whatever that means?

He told me he had always wanted a Pontiac, but couldn't afford one when he was a kid, and had to make do with Chevy's

  They liked the bike too.

Yes, I really do live in California....

And so do I.

Nice collection you have; you should take them for a ride for old time's sake.

I'd never heard that term before either so I googled it and apparently it means "living a good life of plenty", but you probably guessed that.

Aww you made his day.  What a pretty looking neighborhood.

Our next door neighbor has a Mark 1 escort that he as restored himself and it looks lovely (I'll try to get a picture the next time it gets taken out to play).  The funny thing is that our neighbor put a cosworth engin into the car all by himself using a DIY pully system hung from the rafters of the grage. The thing roars to life, Simon skips out to play and they both go for a quick spin round the block...... happy days.

I had one of those, a K reg 1.1 litre, maroon (but very rusty). It was my first car and I loved it, until someone stole it by bending the steering column to remove the Crooklock, thereby causing it to have to be scrapped after I got it back a few days later. That was a very sad day for me back in 1988. Replaced it with a Datsun 180B :headbang:
