Wheelie-ing
« on: 22, February, 2010, 03:04:21 PM »
:o yes, strictly speaking its a bit naughty, but of course life is for living
Ive found three ways of popping em :headbang:
(on the blade)first gear, move to about 10mph snap shut the throttle, then as the forks sink fully, snap it back open,
first gear move to about 10 mph flick the clutch in, bit more revs, let the clutch go
(on the SP1 twin) first, second or third, accellerate to about four thousand revs gently then wind it on hard
All methods involve the back brake being covered in case things go wrong, Ive managed to change gear on the blade whilst the front wheel was up (and subsequently extend the wheelie considerably) But which method do you use?
Can you wheelie? or does it not float your boat?

sv650 - 1st gear, pull away from standstill. Around 4krpm front will lift with no other effort.  Grab 2nd gear as the wheel approaches high point.  3rd if the gearbox is good
Testing PiP 3 cam setup... sv650 wheelie

on the blade, second gear, about 25 mph, blip the throttle, as you close the throttle down pull in the clutch and just dab the back break (helps compress the forks a bit more so gives more bounce), then as the forks push back up drop the clutch and give it some revs, bike should lift up smoothly and without and jerking, whole process should be done withing about a second so if ure coasting with the clutch in for ages ure doing it wrong, lol
no clutch needed changing gears, unless ure at balance point then its best to (just make sure not to pre pressure the gear changer as it wont slip in properly
thats how i do it anyway

It's wednesday night so I will be wheelie-ing the bin out for the bin men and wheelie-ing it back tomorrow night.
As for the bike.... the last time was on the Daytona and was completely inadvertant. I was in a low gear, slowing down for a jnction up ahead when someone started to pull out right in front of me. Braking wasn't an option so hard on the throttle and I pass the myopic driver on one wheel. Not sure the Sprit would lift the front with the same ease.

Wheelies.  No.
Knees down. No.

Such a waste of effort/time/skill to achieve something  so pointless.

Jetstream, is your bike not a road motorX bike? I'm sure you must be getting the front wheel up on that. Even with my DR200 I was trying to get the front wheeel up. Maybe the question for you should be related to putting your leg out when going around a corner? I'd be thinking that most of us on road bikes would see putting your leg out front of you are you went around the corner as a little waste of time.
(not seen what you now ride and only going on the bike I knew 3 years ago)
