Hi from Spain!
« on: 31, January, 2010, 02:59:16 AM »
Hi guys and girls!  :hello:
I'm Virginia from Spain! I move to live in London just since 18 days for improve my english. Maybe I'll live here for one year or maybe for all my life. We can't never be sure.
I love bikes and  to ride with my Suzuki GSXR-600. For the moment I leave my motorbike in Spain because I thought but I miss it very much and I'm thinking bring it with me. Or maybe to buy an other smaller for the city. I'd like to have your opinion.
Also I'd like to know about laws, taxes, to know if I can drive with my spanish licence...
And the most important think... To meet new bikers!
I'm sorry for my english I hope it will be better...
Cheers!

Hello Virginia and welcome to the forum.   :newbie:   Hope you enjoy your time in London.  ;D

As for riding in London, I have never had a sports bike but other people have mentioned that commuting on one is a bit of a strain on the wrists and back and for some bikes on the bike as well as those with computers particularly do not like going too slowly!  :o (I have a GSX 600F and that is not too bad for commuting)

You could save yourself the hassle of bringing your own bike over and get something like a GS500 which is excellent for commuting or an ER6 - likewise.

As for the licence I am putting a link below which explains the requirements for EU member countries - hope this helps.

Hello & welcome!

Wow how brave are you moving to London!  What part of spain are you from? If it were me I'd keep the bike you have and just ride it over to London.  I'm not sure of the rules, tax and all that but I am sure someone will be long to help.  Welcome and look forwards to meeing you.

Thank you very much to all and specially to Weaver. I had a look to this web and if I understood well it said that I can drive with my spanish licence.
So I have decided to buy an old bike for moove over thous months or maybe years. I can't believe without ride!  :headbang:
I'm from Valencia in Spain, Biker Biker. We have a lot of sun all the year and we use to go for ride in twisty roads every Saturday and Sunday morning. Then I need keep my motorbike there for use it when I come back for a weekend or on hollidays.
I have garthered yet that I need to pay the Mot, the taxes and 13 pounds per month for parking at Wendsmister. And I think that to change the name of the owner it's free. And also I need the insurance. Is this true?
I'm looking for a bike in Gumtree and also in autotrader. Can you recomend me anymore please?
Thank you one more time to all the people.

yes you will need an MOT and Tax, plus obviously Insurance. Gumtree and Autotrader are good places to look, and you should be able to find something suitable that will come with an MOT and Tax already.
You are right with regards to changing the owner, this is indeed free. Parking at Westminster I beleive is currently £1 per day for motorcycles, tho I do beleive its cheaper by the month.

Hope this helps ;)

Hi Virrr and welcome to the Big Smoke.  I'm in Enfield, north London, so if you want to go bike shopping, up here, I'd be happy to keep you company.
