Slow Cooking

Who else just loves their slow cooker?

In this cold weather there is nothing like a good stew which is ready to eat when you get in.

Tonight I am making Mexican roast vegetable soup

Do you have a favorite recipe to make us drool?

I love a beef stew done in the slow cooker with lots of onions ,carrots, bit of garlic maybe.
When i worked on a farm a few years ago we would have a stew pot on the rayburn all the time, just keep topping it up with more veg, rabbit, or anything else going.
I love summer time.

I've used mine three times, last time was moderate success-previous to that well the pigs enjoyed it in their slop bucket! i think i overdid putting way too much pearl barley in, was like glue
i will have another go, in theory should be easy...............

Oooohh  ..........    this is a favourite gadget of ours.    The best invention ever for a rideout day  - you may not know what time you're getting home but your dinner will be waiting for you and will not be burnt when you get back.

Obvious favourites are lamb shank or oxtail (chuck in with garlic onion wine herbs etc)   pork chops with mustard, stewing beef with mushrooms & brandy  - the permutations are endless but always open to new suggestions.

Anyone got any good chicken ones?

Pork and apple in cider makes a good one also beef in red wine - both with lots of veggies in of course and fresh garlic and fresh herbs - yummy   ;D

OMG my mouth is wtering.  Its my favourite gadget also!

Well last night we had a disaster as I went to get the slow cooker out and noticed that it was mouldy inside.  Eww.  By accident the ceramic pot went in the dishwasher and cracked the glaze,  soo the good news is - I HAVE A NEW ONE TODAY!  The mexican soup is cooking as we speak. gonna do bacon crispy bits for the topping.

I love the idea of those croc pot ones where you brown the meat in the same dish that you slow cook in (yum all that browned loveyness) but they just look so damn ugly in the kitchen and reminds me of those glupy soups you gte in the couldren shaped can.
Beef with mushrooms & Brandy sounds nice

I do a Coq au Vin style stew which works out ok.  I use legs and thighs, take the skin off, brown in a pan.  2 chicken oxo cubes, pint of wine, a whole lemon cut in half squeezed in and chuck the rinds in.  Some thyme, white pepper.  For the veg I usually add carrots and potato's, but it also works well with corn and butternut squash and mushrooms fried in garlic & butter. I top the pot up with water to cover the chicken.  Once the chicken is cooked, I fish it out, remove the bones and put back into the pot, I also remove the lemon rinds.  If the sauce is too thin I sometimes add cous cous and we have it as a tabouleh type meal, or I make a well of mash potato (if there isn't already potato in it).

we go ours about 12 months ago...fantastic bit of kit. from argos, 6.5 litre, digital thingy.
Mrs naughty has done us a turkey casserole in it today... now im stuffed on the sofa and cant move.

fave meals in it are Leg of lamb with slits cut into it for the garlic slices, rosemary, mint, carrots, any other mixed veg...parsnips mmmmm. Its proper winter food.
Also like pork done in it...crackling has to be done seperately in the oven.. oh and not forgetting my sbsolute fave..a brace of pheasant.. gotta be a cock and hen bird combo....watch out for bones though
