Sunday 2nd August - 2009 Memorial Ride Quick Briefing
« on: 28, July, 2009, 12:03:46 PM »
Most of you have been on this ride before but for the benefit of those who have not, hopefully the following will help.

It is intended that the first group leaves the Silver Ball about 11:00/11:15, so if you want breakfast, please get to the Silver Ball between 9:30 and 10:30 (this will stagger orders so you don't have to wait too long).  Also people can sort out with Sam if they have not paid in adance, though please do if at all possible through the link - http://www.justgiving.com/memorialride2009/ - as this means the Charity gets more dosh if you're a tax payer and saves time on Sunday.

RedOne will be at Tesco Cheshunt at 9:00, leaving at 9:15 latest for anyone who wants to ride up the A10 with others.  The Tesco, is just off the A10 - North from Junction 25 of the M25, straight across the roundabout, through two sets of lights and follow signs off to the left to Brookfield Centre, left hand lane and follow road round to the Tesco Garage not the store.  You'll see the garage as you come off the A10 anyway.
For those who are meeting at The Ace, I suspect either Jim, Mr Rizla, Triskcie etc will be there but in case not - if you want to get to the Silver Ball on time, then you need to leave the Ace by 8:45/9:00.  The route is straightforward - you can either go straight along the A406 (North Circular) eastwards to the A10 (at the Great Cambridge roundabout), or go A406/A1 north/M25 to the A10.  Please remember if you have learners or people on small bikes with you the M25 is not a good idea!!!:)

You then go straight up the A10 over (or off) the M25 (Junction 25).  The Silver Ball is about 24 miles north of the M25 at Reed.  It's about 300 yards on the left past the 40 mph sign.
Could people please please remember to fill up with petrol before the Silver Ball.  Apart from the Tesco on the A10, there is a BP garage just past the second set of lights, then two more garages on the A10 before the cafe.  The last one is on the roundabout where the A507 goes off.  It is not intended to stop on the way to Clacton so please make sure you have enough fuel.

I'd be grateful if people meeting at The Ace or Tesco could make a list on here so that everyone knows who is expected where and with a bit of luck noone will get left behind!  :D

Please also think about in which group you want to ride - advanced, intermediate or pootle and let us know so we can make sure we have an even split - thanks

If you have any questions please yell!  Look forward to seeing you all Sunday.  Ride safe.

Anyone want to meet up At Boxhill, maybe a gentle pootle round to The Ace, then head for the Silverball, just an idea (weather depending)

Reminder - don't forget though the food at the Silver Ball is fattening but good, the car pack is dreadful, so pelase try and avoid the potholes and don't slide around on the gravel too much!   ;D

Just been to see my new bike. Not on this ride now - existing bike is practically someone elses, can't risk it.

Snap. I understand this day will have some meaning more for you than for others - have a good day

Hope everyone is home safe - apologies to Sam who sadly has a ZX10 which cannot keep up with a Teapot!   :D :)

Many thanks to everyone for their company and their generosity.

Sam still has a few t-shirts if anyone who oculdn't come wishes to buy one - actually he has a couple left from 2008 to whic hi am sure he will let you have at a reduced rate  ;D

BM Bob - I have yours at our place.

Thanks for a great day, Weaver, RedOne, Snap, and everyone else who were there. Also thanks to JimC and Mr Rizla for leading/tailgunning the Pootlers. Sorry for the confusion at the roundabout with the A11 - I was meant to be marking but I got stuck behind a car then my eyesight must have failed me for a moment. Well done to Sparky and (I think) Mitzy from LB for getting back to the roundabout after having taken a detour via the A11. My fault; apologies again.
