Hay Rabbit,

Welcome to the London Bikers. So, have you passed your test or are you running on a CBT at the moment? I think the best people to advise on bikes would be the girls as they ride them day in day out. We have a large amount of lady riders all with varying experience.

When it comes to cloths and gear it depends on what sort of riding your going to be doing so please please tell us more and we shall help where we can :)

Welcome again.

Nope I am a complete novice. i have had a 2 hour taster with Ridesure down at Dunsfold and am not ready for CBT. Its a steep learning curve. i am really over l=keen and have been a bit hard on myself since my 2 hour one to one!

Evel Kevevel has introduced me to you guys as it will hopefully make me feel better and keep going at something that is truely worth it.

Hey Rabbit,

I was new to Road biking last year - Things wree basically compeltely new to me (hadnt been on a bike since i was like 10 or something)

Honestly on my CBT i crapped myself thinking "how the hell am i gonna get used to this riding - then three days later i was passing my full blow direct access on a 600cc"

Biking has got so much to offer, freedom, enjoyment, excitment...  You'll LOVE it!

And regarding bikes and such - got some lady mates on a CBF and CBR 125's depends on your preferred seating position ig uess! try them out!

Yep gotta agree with Sean, try them out, all of them, go surfing the dealers sitting on steeds you like. Like I said Ill let the ladies of the forums comment but you need something light, sturdy and something wont cry about if it gets scratched, trust me, your first bike will get dropped, everyone does it, getting out the garage, falling off the stand all part of the learning curve as Sean said.

In regards to gear, well as your novice I would say aim for stuff that allows movement and is cool, you aint going to be doing the speed of the light in your first year nor are you going to be tackling all weather conditions so I would say get a pair of Kevlar Jeans which protect you in a slide but allow you to move around stay cool and focused on the bike and an air jacket. These are in many forms but the basic premise is that it has armour in it, can withstand a low speed slide and is very light.

The one thing you must spend ya money on is Helmet, Boots and Gloves, no matter how fast you are going, where you are going these are the three things that take a battering in a bump. Spend 60% of your budget on a lid, as much as you can afford spend it. If you need any help drop me a PM or pop into the shop on a weekend and well help you out.

hey, just wanted to say hello to everyone. I am new to biking and am looking to get any advice for pint sized ladies like myself!

I am very pint-sized standing in a 5 ft 1, weighing in at about 54kg. I have my own CBR125 with a cut down seat, and am planning on getting a short shock to lower it some more. If you're anywhere in North London you're welcome to have a look & try it on for size.

I met Burger at Bike Safe a few weeks ago, and he's great - He can kit you out with what you'll need.

Alternatively, look out for something called a Honda Rebel. It's a cruiser type thing, 125cc, but it has 2 wheels, gears, and most importantly, a low seat.

I picked my CBR over the CG/YBR because ever since the early-mid eighties I have wanted a Honda Sports Bike. The Yamaha R125 would Iave been prefect, but the R125 are totally too tall for me.

That dream of owning a bike got swept aside as I grew up, but thanks to the crew here, they had woken up that dormant biker in me. :)

Every mile is a struggle - but if a butterfly doesn't struggle out of it's cocoon, it could NEVER get to become a butterfly. :)

I might even have some leathers that might fit you... Let me know if you want to see pics. They are Made by Hein Gericke, called Tribal. They're blue & black with white highlights. (I am on the far right with the blue buff on the head).

This is me, on my bike:

See, it can be done :)

hey all. Thanks so much for the welcome. So now I am logged on at home i can say a proper hello, I am 5ft 1 and a half, and for those of you who are like me the half inch is massively important.

I have always loved bikes but have thought I couldn't possibly do it with my pint size. But the more I thought about it the more I thought yes I can and with some motivation from the likes of evel Kevevel I have gone out there and taken the firsts steps, mind you how steep is that learning curve.

Thank you to strumminronin, I will look you up and see if I can get over. I work in Holborn. Also a big thanks to everyone else who has left comments, I am hoping you will be there after I drop the bikes and when I am bitching about my height and how i can't ride and blah ( all of you have probably heard it all before) and you will all have words that will keep me going!!

Thanks also to Burger, I think I will come see you, Evel kevevel says he knows where you are?

I am back on the bike in a couple of weeks but until then I am begging as much pillion as is allowed!!

Hi again, Rabbit. Good, you're just round the corner from me. My office is on Upper St Martin's Lane.

We should meet up one day after work for a pint or a coffee - let's go to the little coffee place on Monmouth Street! They do *FANTASTIC* coffee there!

I had the most amazing day, I felt fab and was really going great guns.
Last 2 hours was out on the road, and after 5 minutes disaster struck....Instructor said it was nothing I did but the bike got stuck in a rut in the road and I just couldn't pull it back and ended up coming off into the roadside with a very nasty landing, suspected broken hip or femur and a very BIG headache...I was carted off in the ambulance on a spinal board after having my kit cut off!!!!

After 4 hours in A&E and several dozen xrays later thankfully no broken bones... I am just so gutted I couldn't get the bike back on track...Novice driver, the instructor reckons I tried to steer the bike which meant I was probably subconsciously trying to push my left hand down, which of course would have made me continue into the verge!!

Anyway I have a very painful hip and am struggling around the house, but as soon as I am fit again I am going back to do the road ride again to get the CBT buttoned up!!

Its a strange feeling when you crash...everything is in slow motion and you plan everything until you land and then everything is just a blur!! And then the pain hits...all good fun!

Will update you when I manage to get it! This thread is the bike shed

I missed your original posts, so a belated welcome aboard.

Very sorry to hear of your off. I hope that doesn't put you off biking, that your injuries heal quickly and that no bones are broken.

Pretty well every biker knows exactly what you mean about crashing - we've all been there, bought the t-shirt, etc. It is a steep learning curve and there is some pain along the way but once you've passed that stage and have experienced, and learnt from, the various pitfalls, you will be fine. The fun part is that you never really stop learning.

I wish you all the best with your future on 2 wheels (with an engine).
Your life is what your thoughts make it
