National bikesafe motorcycle show 2009
« on: 30, April, 2009, 11:34:46 PM »
':O' Just to let everyone know about a forthcoming event coming up soon:

One of the UK’s largest motorcycle safety shows is to be hosted by BikeSafe-London and sponsored by Transport for London for the second consecutive year and returns to the world renowned Metropolitan Police Training School (Peel Centre), Aerodrome Road, Hendon, NW9 5JE, on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st June 2009. Opening times are 10am to 5pm and entry and parking are FREE.

Police Officers from BikeSafe-London, working in partnership with motorcycle officers from across the UK, will be on hand at the event to provide safety advice and offer free rider skills assessments. These can be carried out on the rider’s own bike or with a bike on loan from an exhibiting manufacturer.

There will be lots to see and do for all the family, not just motorcyclists and the show will be much bigger (and hopefully drier and sunnier) than last year!

Aside from the many motorcycle manufacturers and dealers in attendance there will be numerous different stands offering all manner of goods and services. If you bring your own bike along then why not put it on the Dyno so you can get an idea of its true performance and get a printout to show your mates! You can also test your reactions on a bike simulator. If you’re new to two wheels then a bike training school will be on hand offering advice and scooter try-outs.

Reasonably priced food and drink will be available throughout the day from catering outlets.

There will be emergency services related stuff too such as police skid pan car demos, police dog displays, Special Escort Group, London Fire Brigade collision extraction demonstrations with the London Ambulance Service, police and air ambulance helicopters, etc, etc.

There will be plenty of entertainment on both days with stunning displays by the famous British Army Royal Signals White Helmets Motorcycle Display Team. We have MG Stunt Riding (Mattie Griffin is Ireland’s No. 1 stunt riding champion, ranked 5th in the Streetbike Freestyle World Championship 2009), the original wooden Wall Of Death (the one you see on the BBC between programmes) and also East Coast FMX (performing breath taking stunts jumping over 30 feet above the ground and gaps of over 60 feet leaving their bikes mid flight).

There will be loads of bikes available to look at, sit on and ride, from all the manufacturers that matter. No pre-booking is required to take a bike for a ride, just turn up on the day with your driving licence (card and counterpart). You may need to get there early to avoid disappointment if there is a specific bike you want to try. Please note that some restrictions may apply.

This event is about celebrating the fun and excitement of motorcycling while also supporting riders to ensure they can continue to enjoy biking by improving their road safety awareness and skills with the help of free expert advice.

A flavour of the day is on our website here:

For all Bikesafe do for the bikers, this is a MUST if only to show support to the hard work put in by the officers daily, not just this event.
Hope to see some of you Sunday.

Shame we had to miss this as we enjoyed it last year.  Our pilot was on a 24 hr 1000 mile ride round Scotland this weekend so that took priority ;D

Was a good show though sadly won't be at Hendon next year as apparently the batton is being handed to South Yorkshire to host. It is unlikely that the event will return South before 2013.

I had a great day and despite the failing radiator fan leading to some rather Heath Robinson modifications the bike behaved itself otherwise. Stripped bike down today and found the radiator fan had completely sheared all of it's mountings and so there was no earth return between the thermostat and the fan. New radiator and replacement fan fitted. Just got to rebuild all the body work tomorrow.
