The fraction of a second it took to work out the red, white and blue lights were in fact motorbikes coming towards me ...

Funny you should mention that.

I had some car coming towards me across a mini roundabout one recent evening, and those little funky/cute LED lights, colourful like a UFO, which this car had built into the headlights DID distract me.

(Ah, so is THIS what Aceman meant by "low flying aircrafts"?? )

Understandably for Aceman's purpose here is quite specific, which is for easy identification for within a group, however, as "another road user", IMO boring conformity may prove to be a safer bet.

Hey, this might hijack the thread somewhat, but - given that a lot of bulbs have a certain "temperature" reading, and by that I am referring to the measurement in Kelvins that indicate the colour of its light, where some bulbs are "whiter" than others; and that daylight has a broader spectrum of light and seem more "blue" than a iridescent bulb... so do these "blue" bulbs just carry a tint that make the light seem whiter?

Oh heck.  I thought I'd deleted my previous posting before I went out earlier, but I must have fumbled it, probably by hitting the "undo" button too soon.  When I typed it out, I was angered by Matt's comment.  In responding that way, I've lowered my own integrity by digging at Ken, which was completely out of order order.

Ken - Sorry buddy, my sarcastic comment was unkind.

Matt -  Simply saying "chump" doesn't exactly promote harmony.  Your following comment though, gives value to your opinion, and makes good sense.  PM to be sent to you in a moment.

TEC normally wears a hi vi, or do what Derek Trainer did and get a pan with hi vi stickers so he looks like a copper. Although if you all do that it defeats the object!! Or you could get a white helmet, that would make you stand out, and, I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong because I know nothing about the actual law, but white is technically the only legal colour for a helmet unless I'm mistaken?

Too many people wear hi-viz for it to be practical for Point and TEC as others in the group would then not be alowed to wear hi-viz potentially lowering thier personal safety. Then whilst on a ride-out somebody completely unconnected with your ride wearing a hi-viz gets in front of TEC and causes confusion. Coloured tabbards or gaffa tape cross on the bike are systems which work.

As for a white helmet being the only legal colour, that's a new one on me as a helmet can be any colour as car a bike or car.

That's a coincidence; there's a guy in my group, ELAM, also called Derek Trainer who does cop impressions.

I'm certainly not interested in wearing HiVi.  Most of them only secure with an insignificant amount of velcro, and I reckon that they are never a good enough fit to stay in place, so that would cause an annoyance.  Besides, as TallGuy said, many of the IAMers wear them, so the purpose of being unique is lost.

I like your creative thinking StrumminRonin.  How about wearing LEDs on clothing?  Anyone seen the film Tron?  '<img'>

It's the same person. Since we sold our bikes we haven't had much to do with elam but we used to be quite involved. I only mentioned Derek because I happened to bump into him at Finchingfield last week and I had to laugh when I saw him strolling across the grass. He even had a utility belt on!!! He really has gone to some lengths to look like a policeman!!! Quite amusing as I remember when he was doing the training for his test...

"Round" is just too ambiguous.  Bear in mind that I'm 43 years of age and 21% body fat at 5'9" and that I'm trying get that down to 16%.

LOL.  Are you trying to get me into trouble by not giving a negative answer here?   '<img'>

From what I recall, he is certainly not as slim as me.  He is shorter than me, clean shaven, no glasses and has grey hair, if I remember correctly.  Oh, he's white, definitely a caucasian guy.

Safely anwered, I beleive.

Oh heck, now I'm not sure about the glasses.  But he's definitely, absolutely, positively white.  And older than me.

So do you want me to say "hello" from you then?

My Derek quite liked to stop our lessons for a cuppa at h**da in Chiswick.

Ask him if he remembers losing 2 sisters on Red CG125s only to find that one sister had fallen off and skidded into the back of the other at a round about.  Claire and I were being helped by the firebrigade as he turned up.  Derek then kicked off the mud guard and told us not to mention it when we returned to the training school  ':blush':
