Hi!
Since i just moved to London, and I really miss having bikers around me, i thought i could join here to maybe meet some nice biker people. I don´t have either bike or a license yet, but my plan is to get that as soon as I move back to Sweden. Probably something like a CBR 600.
Hope that I will feel a bit more "home" here...
Edit, Sorry if my english is bad.

Do you have one yourself? I have seen many CBRs of different sizes around, and ninjas. Seems to be very popular models here.

Welcome aboard, Louize. I don't have a CBR or a Ninja. I am unique on this forum (and most others for that matter) as I have a Bandit 1250

I hope you enjoy your time in London.

thank u very much. Just wondering if many young people have bikes here, or is it too expensive? How much does it cost to get a license here?

Hi Louize and welcome.
Have to say if it's young people with bikes you're looking for, you've come to the wrong place cos we are all old and tired.
'>
However, there are lots of them about, but it's getting more and more expensive to take the test and the age at which you can take the test is getting higher because young people cannot be trusted to keep themselves alive for any length of time...
I have a Ninja, by the way!

cant remmember being 18, was sooo long ago, in fact i think my old leathers are older than you
'>
Come on girls, help the young lady out with your words of wisdom, a good ladies choice for a bike may be an SV650 rather than a CBR and one of the ladies may be selling one also
'>
More than enough people here to help you get on your feet, so to speak

Louize, if it's a CBR you want, look up "Fireblades.org". There is a small group of UK bikers there, as well as a female only section.

Ditto Trig, need to do your test by March as they keep making it harder and more expensive, when they should be concentrating on making car drivers more aware and considerate to other road users, or make them ride a bike before they are allowed to drive a car!
Any way very good luck and welcome, you will get lots of help and encouragement, CBR600 or an SC650 are excellent first bikes, will look after you

Thank you for all the information, and making me feel welcome! Hope that some fresh blood can be good for this site then:P
First i was in to buying a motard because they seem to be a lot more safe, but then my friend let me try his old kawa and i was in love. The agelimits are almoste the same here, but its probably harder to actually pass the test here. I think my boyfriend spent less than £1000 on his license in sweden.

ooo i think i know that road too well, but actually, at least if feels like my english is better when i have had some drinks, or maybe just because i cant hear how bad it actually sounds then.
Btw, is there any particular bar/pub where u bikers hang out? Since there are so many bikers here i suppose its hard to meet everyone, but like a general place where lots of bike people go?

I think some members from this site meet up on Fridays at the legendary Ace Cafe which is in north west London, about 7 miles out from the centre. If you want to stay more central and meet a large number of equally friendly bikers, albeit from a different forum, then head to Borough Market on a Wednesday night from about 7-ish.

What area of London do you live in? There will be a biker haunt somewhere near, there is bound to be!
We often go down to Ryka's Cafe which is near Dorking in Surrey on a Wednesday night, but only when the weather improves (speaking personally). Traditionally, if you are new to TLB, someone who lives near you will meet up and ride with you to wherever you want to go.

I live in west london, in turnham green. I have heard of ace cafe i think in a swedish biker magazine.
I´m new to TLB, and I don´t have a bike of my own so if I would like so meet u guys some day it would have to be in a cafe or something. But i´ll keep an eye on the forum and maybe I decide to show up if you are going somewhere nice.

I'd be inclined to say "dont run before you can walk" but I never did it that way!!!
Good first bike would be something like a cbr400 but they're quite hard to come by...I would also highly recommend a bandit or fazer 600. You'll get more road confidence starting on a sit up model before getting a sports bike

Sorry, young Swedish girl joins the site - someone pinch me- did a load of our members not see this post!!!
Welcome to the site, everyone is very friendly, even if you aren't a young lady, honest.
Don't be too worried about the test, from what I've seen, the changes may even make it slightly easier to pass - and cheaper providing you are near a test centre. Who knows? As for money wise, I reckon it cost me about £500 or so, but that was about 10 years ago.

Hi Louize, welcome to your London family
'>
Haven't been on here for a few weeks, so I've got some catching up to do and what a nice place to start, welcoming a new member
'>
By the way Louize I work very near Turnham green on the Hogarth roundabout, so one more for the Westie London posse
'> I take it you've had a look around Chiswick H0nda??
'>
P.S. we may be sorting a social night out in Richmond soon, which is only a couple of stops from you on the district line so trust me noone will be on bikes that night...

Hi Louize and welcome to TLB..... woo woo one more for the girls!
I'm in the Ruislip area and riding an SV650.....
Biking advice.... you can do better than asking for advice on TLB, this lot know everything there is to know about Motorbikes, Riding, Crashing and Repairing so I hope you enjoy your new home.
My advice would be the same as Gem... start out on a smaller cc bike, for a number of reasons; the insurance will be cheaper, more economical with petrol, and cheaper road tax and it give you a chance to learn the road craft for staying alive on the roads in London. Personally I don't think that a 600 is that small a bike, its still quicker than a car and maybe Freckles could voice her experience of running about on a 125 with TLB.
And before anyone else starts on the subject of dropping bikes.... I am the queen
'>
Smaller engine bikes tend to be lighter and easier to pick up when you forget to put your foot down.
Hope to see you out at the Ace soon
