Don't know where in California you are, but Highway 36 from Ferndale (just south of Eureka) to Red Bluff is an absolute stonker, the first bit's mostly twisty mountain and the last few miles are funny little hills and nice swoopy bits. I'm going back ASAP just to do that road again.

Thanks for that, I'm just South of SF so Red Bluffs a bit of a drag for me from here, however....PCH 1 is not far at all, highly recommended!

PCH 1 is lovely too, just a bit more traffic. They retarmac'd it last spring I believe, it was perfect when I was there in May. I'll definitely be back

Quite agree, though I last went there back in '94.
Far as I recall, they have to keep rebuilding bits of it as it falls into the ocean!
