finally some good news.
after a few days hunting on the web I found a replacement blade.
tempting as it was to go for injection I resisted!
I found a late RRX model in bridlington south of scarborough, v reg it was priced well at £2300 and owned by a bloke who was 74 yrs old (WTF?? on a blade?)
ok it wants a good clean and some braided hoses (got some) but its straight. after mucho chiseling and pleading poverty he accepted £1700. I had to get my mate to ride the bike home (on account of the still sore collar bone) the clean up starts tomorrow but boy, the void in my garage is filled and it smells "bikey" when you walk in there. fingers crossed I get a good payout when the insurance coughs up

not the case yet matt, I'm still waiting for my payout
. this one was bought out of my.."slush fund"
I've had all the front fairing off today and started cleaning up all the shite hidden underneath it.
it took me nearly two hours to get the back wheel off, adjusters rusted and rounded and the rear spindle was seized solid. all freed off, wire brushed, cleaned, greased and oiled now, chain was honking too but it looks brand new now.
wire brush on the drill, hammered the sprockets, gouged all the crap out behind front sprocket cover, brushed swinging arm with lashings of petrol,
cleaned wheels, sprayed front fork lowers, wire drilled sides of radiator and sprayed black, cleaned up calipers..recent pads fitted ..result...two more days, it'll look like a new pin.. then ill post some photos

what a day!
started at eight this morning and downed tools at half nine tonight.
t.cut ed all the panels to get rid of all the little scratches, touched up the little nick and chips on the front then polished the lot.
fitted new indicator to the back and remade the joints with proper crimp connectors
the bike might have came from a uk dealer and have a mph speedo but it had a continental headlight fitted. good job I pilfered my uk one from dead blade
'>
its now fitted inside the top fairing
'>
spent another hour on the swinging arm cleaning it.
duraglit on the exhaust and pillion footrest has made them gleam.
rear suspension spring was honking but has come up like new.
cleaned all the wiring harness at the front and inside the fuse box which had an inch of crap inside it.
mirror bases were all flakey with white electrolysis corrosion, wire drilled it all off, resprayed 5 times and laquered 3 times. they look brand new now.
the machine is really starting to come together . or at least all the parts have been tidied to what I would call an acceptable standard. ie, friggin gleaming!
theres still some scrubbing and polishing to do but it should start to go back together late morning/early afternoon tomorrow.
it could be done tomorrow night, but I forsee saturday will also Be spent fannying around getting things "just right"
sorry no before pictures but there will be plenty of after pictures..that's a promise !!
oh, the shoulder has gotten a lot better over the last two days, I can actually do things with my left arm now.
yay!

i decided to insure the bike today, I was expecting a sting...
I called up MCE and asked for a quote, the bloke asked for my postcode etc and asked if i was wanting to insure the old blade.
I said, "no its gone"
which is true,
he asked for the new registration which i gave him.
"ah, another 918 blade" he said...
wait while i get you a quote........
mmmm (no further questions I might add)
"ok KGM will insure you for £120"
(these are the people with whom i was insured before)
I am still waiting to be paid out by the way, I said "ok heres my card details" matey took them and told me my cover starts at half three this afternoon.
no one mentioned the claim and i answered all the questions honestly...
have i been lucky or are they likely to clock whats happened and write to me to cancel my new insurance?

their sneaky enough to leave it as is but should anything arise in the future im sure its something they can use to not pay you out. You should get it clarified.

todays work.
refitted front and side fairings, t cut ed them all twice and polished them.
cleaned the swing arm some more, cleaned the frame cross members and water expansion chamber.
scrubbed rear brake linkage to remove rust, got it down to the metal and laquered it.
fitted new bulb to indicator.
fitted screen and mirrors.
cleaned fuel filler neck and cap.
removed bar ends, cleaned and resprayed them. refitted bar ends.
reconnected all lighting circuits.
set chain tension and oiled with heavy gearbox oil.
sat about in the sunshine with a glass of juice admiring my work.
insured bike.
ordered a new lid.
noticed that the top fairings finish was a bit hazy.
dug out some auto glym rejuvinating polish and re-did top fairing. much deeper shine. polished with mr sheen.
went to the shop and bought some duraglit.
drank beer admired bike more and vowed it would all be done and dusted tomorrow

I'd want something in writing saying that they know about the claim and that the price quoted takes that into account. Otherwise, as Dan has said, you could be up Shi. creek if you have another off that takes in paying out for the other person. I don't think insurance companies could ever be taken on their word. I'd want it in writing.
