Bike Insurance

I spend several days every year at renewal time, very carefully checking out what's available when it comes to insurance.  I make a checklist of my requirements and go through it with every one I call without fail.  This year, I callled 19 insurance companies & brokers.

Commonly being quoted about £1k, and in one case, £1,800, I conitinued with my annual pursuit.  This year, I took a policy that gave me unlimited mileage, European cover (with 10 days notice,) third party cover on other bikes, protected no claims discount, Class 1 business use, breakdown & recovery cover, and legal protection.  The bike must be chained and garaged whenever it is at my house.  But when out on the bike, it does not need to be chained up, although I do nearly all the time anyway.  Some companies wanted me to chain the bike to an immoveable object every time I park it up, which is very inconvenient, expecially when taking passengers.

They did make one little mistake, in that they got the insurance policy to comment on the day I paid for it, instead of the following day as I requested, therefore I had 2 policies operating on the bike for 24 hours.  When I pointed this out, they admitted thier mistake, but said that they cannot change the commencement date of the policy, but that they would throw in free legal cover & breakdown cover if I renewed with them next year.  That part of the policy costs £30, and I believe that seemed fair, so accepted it.

The end result? £587!  If any of you guys want to take a quote form this company, then ring Express on 0800 107 4956 and ask to spead to Andy or his manager.  Don't speak to anyone else, and make sure you quote my name (Martin Ace) to get the best deal possible.

Alex is with Express at the mo, covered by Zenith, but they quoted over £800 to renew as he had his bike stolen in April. Going to cover the replacement bike with Carole Nash at £433 with breakdown cover, legal expenses and £250 excess TPFT.

I've now got to totally withdraw my view on Express Insurance.  See my new thread "Express Insurance - Bad service"
