Weekend in assen
« on: 14, February, 2008, 11:02:59 PM »
Ok, guys just an idea at the moment to see if anyone fancies this.  Most places are usually booked up now for World Superbikes and MotoGP so the next best thing would be a trip to Assen to watch our own Mr Troutslayer race!!  '<img'>

I have already run this past him and he thinks it would be a cool idea!!

We were thinking of either leaving on the Thursday night 22 May taking the 23.45 ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland arriving there at 7am the next morning and riding to Assen and staying in a hotel until Monday 26 May getting the 14.00 ferry back to Harwich (£150)
OR
Folkestone to Calais Eurotunnel (£64) on Friday 23 May, earlyish time and riding up through Belguim to Assen, takes about 5 hours but with lots of stopping on the way and coming back on the Monday.

Hotel we're thinking of using

Trouty says he's getting there on the Thursday, has trackdays on Friday and Sat and then the race is Sunday.

So whose up for this??  I think it would be a great TLB event!!  Let us know what you think or if anyone has been there before, what you think the best way is to get there?   '<img'>

Strangely enough I had been thinking of this too, as I have friends who live near Assen, I stayed with in 2006, they are getting elderly and I thought of seing them as well as watching Trouty racing.
Would quite like the Eurotunnel option, but would need to check the mileage again.
Been extra manic this week, will try to get my head around it after the weekend ':p'

There may be a few more going from another place, I'm trying to see if I can make this but I might have to go to a wedding in the states.

If we go it'll be the same timings but we're probably going to be camping.... '<img'>

Well add about another 100km to that, so that's about 40/45 mins then   '<img'>

Camping is not out of our plans either, (thinks back to the beach party weekend)  '<img'>  but we would need someone going in a car or van to take the tent/campingstuff/beer etc.  '<img'>

and I wonder how many we lose at the Amsterdam intersection  '<img'>
Loud cans save lives.

OK tell me how a boy can grow two jacket sizes in 7 weeks??  or did Moss bros fuck up the measuring???? and its the day before the wedding..

Organizing a wedding and a funeral at the same time was never in the fucking plan.

I'll be doing camping lightweight style, with a bare minimum (tent, bag and mat) packed to the bike plus toothbrush and credit card '<img'>

Single room at that hotel is 135 euro (approx £100) for 3 nights.
Double room is 202.50 euro (approx £151) for 3 nights.
Eurotunnel £64 (for 2) return - not sure if its the same for single rider.
So not too much really......camping would be a cheaper option but there are also other hotels around - I just quite liked the look of this one!!! '<img'>

Not sure how much it is to watch the racing, any ideas Troutie??

This sounds like a goer, get us down, few beers, few races all good. Assen is a wicked spectator circuit too Very nice circuit. Will have a word with Crashy and trouty tonight and see if we can get booked onto the circuit couple of days before. Nothing like tasting the real deal eh?
