Limehouse link speed camera
« on: 31, January, 2008, 10:05:35 AM »
Today I was "flashed" by the speed camera mounted by the slip road that brings you of the tunnel at Canary Wharf when heading eastbound.

As you may know, there are typical "Gatso" type markings on the two main carriageways in the tunnel, but I was in the slip road to the left of these, and that has no calibration markings. I was doing about 35 mph when the camera went off so I'm unsure if:
1) It was me that triggered it.
2) If will be "done" for this considering the lack of road markings.

Can anyone help? I'm slightly annoyed as this was down to a lack of concentration rather than being silly '<img'>

Cheers,

POB

Chances are you might get away with it IF it is true that you were not on the calibration lines, as there would be no means for them to calculate the speed you were doing, hence you could always argue it in court, if you wish to appeal.

But... unfortunately you can only tell in about 3 weeks time if you get a ticket from them. I wish you the best of luck.

Is there any chance that it could have flashed at someone coming the other way? I have this happen on Brixton Road a lot when the camera on the otherside will flash over to my side of the road. The falsh for speeding is never me, most of the time it's a bus overtaking me that set it off ':blush':

Good luck if keeping the coin in your pocket and your points '<img'>

It's one way.
Despite living practically on top of the tunnel I've never actually met anyone who's been fined there. I reckon you'll be Ok on the sliproad, I always go all the way over to the left on that bit. Those cameras are rumoured to be linked for average speed, so I always do a steady 30 all the way just in case.

I got flashed there a couple of weeks ago and still haven't heard anything yet so might be OK.

Knowing Burger it was on eye wheel and the ticket will be the least of his problems soon as Alba picks up the points for this '<img'>

Matt,

"yea, did you see the fooking camera you waaaaanker (australian accent) !!"

Lol,

Yea, was on slip, and I was in the car too. Just wrote requesting photo's. Im not sure it was me though, I was doing 33 as I had the cruise set and a Passat came boming past me and then it flashed. So either my clocks are out, the passat set it off and Im taking the wrap or its someone else?

Feck knows till I see the snaps, Im sure It will sort itself out, only 3 points, Im bound to get them some day, Never had a point on my licence and I have held it for almost 9 years now.  '<img'>

aha! having changed address, i sent my tainted license away for address change. it had 3 points from 2004, and 3 points from 2007 on it.

it came back with one set of those missing. the 2007 points were missing from the license '<img'> and the 2004 ones expire shortly '<img'> '<img'>

Bugger.

I've held my license for 8 years now with no points as yet so I'll be pissed off about this if I get caught.

I'm unsure if I have to plead not guilty when the NIP arrives if I want to see the pictures or if you can just request them anyway withou making any sort of statement. How did you go about requesting your pictures?

From what I understand, the markings on the road are required to allow the pictures to stand up as evidence as without the road markings, it is impossible to prove the distance I traveled between the two pictures being taken. I can only hope my bike was so far to the left of the slip road that I appear right on the edge of the picture and there is no reference point to use to judge my progress.

Its annoying to get points going to work on the VFR when yesterday I spent all day burning fuel on the 749 in Hampshire without incident '<img'>

Oh well, as you say the points will come sooner or later I'm sure and its best to have them know as a reminder to slow down '<img'>

Cheers,

Ed

best way to deal with getting flashed by a speed camera ? a balaclava, an old tyre, some lighter fluid and a box of matches... ':devil'

oh and an alibi might be useful too '<img'>

I'm amazed that "word" hasn't got round yet....
why are you all still fretting about gatso pictures..
Ive posted on herre before about a way out of them, DM escaped one sing this, so did someone else, and then there was the bike in the bus lane saga that was also "swerved"
If you have a NOIP through the post, just give me a bell or PM me and I'll tell you how to get round them.
The system is failsafe, the only time you are truly banged to rights is if
A. you are stopped by the law (and cant talk your way out of it) or,
B you are in a company vehicle where a daily logbook is used.

in EVERY other circumstance there is every chance you can evade prosecution...
