1) Don't remember my first TV appearance, but I was on the cover of a book with my knickers showing at the age of 3.

2) I keep my crash helmet on quite a lot of the time.

Great film, that. Carol Reed was a brilliant director; The Third Man is one of my favourite films. The "ballon?" scene always makes me laugh.

Do you have a stage name? Can't find a Colin in IMDB.

Two cars set off from the same point. One travels 4 miles north and then 3 miles west and reaches its destination. The other travels 4 miles south and then 3 miles east and reaches its destination. What distance apart are they when they both reach their destinations?

10 miles apart

Correct, Mr T. Great question - got me doing trig for the first time since 1984. Still remembered The Orange Alligator Sat On His Cornflakes And Hiccupped! Opp=4, Adj=3, TanA=opp/adj=4/3 therefore A=53.13 degrees, the answer to Triggerhappybaby's question is 2 x hypotenuse. Cos A = adj/hyp therefore hyp = adj/cos A = 3/cos 53.13 = 5. Distance between cars  = 2 x hyp = 10. Simple!!

Brings back happy memories...  ':crazy'

Actually you are both wrong. The topic was entitled a question for wildcat or scorps and thus your answers are invalid. '<img'>

10 miles apart

but but but also it depends if the surface is flat. I mean, if we're on a small globe they could be next to one another on the back of the globe. Lateral (or spherical) thinking.

the answer is 14 miles* whats all this hypopotenous nonsense

* assuming that both routes taken were on straight roads and occurred exactly the same point in time and space.

Show us your workings for that one Alex.......

By my reckoning, and what with the square on the hypotenuse being equal to the sum of the squares on the other two sides, 4 squared (16) plus 3 squared (9) = 25. Square route of 25 is 5 and double it. That gives me 10 miles. Was yours the scenic route?  '<img'>

Admittedly my maths isn't all that, but my confidence was high on this one unless you know different?

do you REALLY want me to work out the tangential values of the earths surface over such a small set of values? sure, if we were talking a few thousand flat miles, then we'd have 1 or 2 miles to add on, but over 10 miles, it will be negligible. '<img'>
