Right I have my theory test tomorrow!!! Multipul questions I'm fine with, getting 95% all the time. Its the hazzard awareness part Im really not getting to grips with. Anyone done this over last few months/ years that can help me put my mind at rest? Just want to get this over with now. 9am at Ilford DVLA/DSA place.

Well wish me luck as I'll be a big biker soon. Once I found another £400 to do the rest of my test.

Sniff.

Hiya,

I was really worried about mine - did it just under three years ago, but I did OK much to my surprise.

Have you done any practice ones?  That should help - I think you can try them online.

Just relax - oh yes and do not keep pressing the mouse in the hope that you hit it at the right point - they penalise you if you hit it too many times.

Hazard perception – keep a cool head for this part and just pretend that you are on the bike…. What would you be looking out for?

Anything that might be a potential issue that could develop into something that you need to deal with.

Parked cars, pedestrians, surface water, different road texture, low light, dazzling light, hindered vision, hidden dips.  Its about reading the road signs that are given and well as the information that you can collect from the journey.

Keep calm and think about survival on the road

The very best of luck to you!
People will forget what you have said and they will forget what you have done--but they will never forget the way you made them feel.

Hi mate.

I did my theory two weeks ago (did my DAS assessment day/first day today and I only need one more full day (apparently) before I book my test- I'm dead excited!'<img'> so this is still fresh in my mind. First thing to remember is that you shouldn't be nervous!

Regarding the hazard perception, do you have a the DVLA DVD? I borrowed my girlfriends and ran through the practice session once the night before the test and did fine. Effectively you have multiple  potential hazards in each clip that you are allowed to identify by clicking. These may be things such as a vehicle pulling to a stop in a side road or a bus starting to indicate to pull out. However you don't score any points for identifying these. What you do score on is the "actual" hazard which I think is defined as something that causes you to change speed or direction. For example:

You are driving/riding down a high street and you see a bus stopped with pedestrians boarding. Currently this is a potential hazard in that the bus may pull out in front of you (or a pedestrian may walk from in front of the bus etc etc). So at this stage you may choose to click and identify this as a potential hazard. The bus then starts to indicate and it is then clear the bus will move off, meaning you have to brake. From the moment the bus indicates, this hazard has developed and your time window for scoring opens. The longer you take to identify the developing/developed hazard the lower you score will be.

The one issue that you may have is that you may click very early on to say that you have identified the bus as being a potential problem, but you need to click again once it is clear this will cause the change in direction or speed. You can't go to sleep once you think you've got the main hazard (there is one per clip except...) as one clip from the 14 has two hazards. I assume this is done to keep you on your toes!

As Biker Biker says, if you treat this like you are actually riding it is quite easy to identify potential problems such as the bus, pedestrians crossing, cars reversing out of drives, dogs in the street (one clip I had in the practice test!'<img'> or a driver about to open his car door onto the street, however the skill is to guess when the creator of the test defines the hazard has progressed from potential to developing. However I don't think the tests are scored that tightly and I think if you just clicked once for each potential hazard you'd probably catch the developing one!

Hope this makes sense. If not, I'm happy to try and explain further.

Oh, and good luck!

Cheers,

Ed

I was given the tip to imagine you were riding, click once when you think about throttling off or covering the brake, once more when you would throttle off or cover the brake, and once more if you would actually apply the brake.  Worked for me. '<img'>

Consider this.

'Anything other than you on the road, is an hazard' and is out to kill you.

Good luck for the test. I passed mine when cable operated front drum brakes were all the rage.

Hazard awareness is clicking every time you see or perceive a hazard develope.
Click at everything you see even if its the same hazard only its intensified.
You can get punished for over clicking in a repetitive manner.
Best bet = click...click..............click click pause click click click pause ':p'
Piece of pi55 nothing to fear there.

GOOD LUCK '<img'>

Good luck fella.

When i done my theory i was really worried because i was told not to click too much so i didnt and FAILED!

The second time the guy gave me good advice.....
'As long as your constantly clicking you will be fine, click every little thing, even if you see a leaf fall out the tree click it, if it looks a bit windy, click it'

So dont worry about it at all, just click every little thing even if you think its stupid, judt click!

Good luck!   ':]'

Well I'm back. And I FAILED by one single point. Hazzard test passed by shead loads. Failed the multiple choice by the single ONE point.

I am gutted. Ireally cant belive it. Well now got to wait til end of the month to get paid to redo it. And then the test fee has gone up to £28 and questions also gone up.

O'well never mind. As they say better luck next time.

The wife is doing her CBT on Sunday.
She is riding a moped without L plates as her car licence covers her for that. '<img'>
Now she has to pass a test to get L plates for her 125, then take a test to remove them.

Am I the only one that thinks this strange? ''

Oh well, whatever.
She will be doing the CBT on her moped, but it will still be valid for the 125.
She has the 125 in the garage at the moment, but can't (legally) ride it until Sunday (as long as she passes).
Luckily I can already ride it. '<img'> (Just to make sure it works, of course)

I know you only failed by one (which is worse than failing loads) just a thought did u beg, borrow, steal or buy the book with all the multiple choice answers in it?  might be worth it.  Hope you fly through all the tests next time

I have to admit I was bricking it at the bit you sailed through..!!  Dont think I really understood what the hazzard perception was about and the screen was not very clear, in my mind I could hear jim - throttle off, click, throttle on click, break click.. should be a breeze then next time sniffer.
THanks Jim !! x '<img'>
