Lee, Train or ferry into France. Then from there hack off 500 miles to Burgundy and then head east, from there we need to head to Zurich. Before Zurich I suggest finding a cheap B+B or hostel.
Up in the morning and your straight into the swiss twisties. by night you will be in the middle of Italy. I did it in one day.

Time is always an issue with any trip. But if you knock out an ave of 300 miles a day then it gives you loads of time to hit the drink at night and be on bike by 9:30am

Can't say I'd have fun on that picture of a road in Italy. Not flow to it.

It'll be better to have roads like in Spain when we left Burgos. They were smooth and nice 90+ corners. Having a couple of good sharpe corners like in your picture helps to keep you awake and test if you have cooked the pads

No, it's the amount of corners before you can get the bike into 3rd. I'm more into the fast corners like we had with our ride in Spain. There must be roads like this in Italy as there has been talk of them having car and bikes that are near the top of racing

Italy i cant commit too. However the year after we thats Edd and I have a much bigger trip in the pipeline which would involve Spain Santeder to Burgos then onto south of France, Alps then onto Stelvio pass voted best road in the World. Then off to Germany and fit a few laps of the Nurburgring. Thinking a 10 day holiday should fit this all in and no booking of hotels just head off and see what happens. Would love to do Italy with you guys though but 2009 this Journey will def be happening.

500 miles in a day is quite a hack (not impossible though) are the roads good enough to maintain...say...90mph?
remember some of us will have already covered some 350 miles gettting to Dover (if we cross there)
ive just been looking at a map, would it not make sense to head straight ot zurich?

The way I did was E17 Toll down to Troyes, took about 3 hours two stops for fuel and fags. From Troyes its fast sweeping A road. nice scenary proper France heading East to Chamont on the 54. Its then a variation of the 54 to Basel where I suggest we would stay the night. From there you have a little bit of bother getting through Zurich and then on to the good stuff. We should be in Burgamo in Northern Italy by 3pm the next day is progress is up. If not we can crash in a B+B there for the second night and have a nice amble through, such a nice place to ride you dont wanna rush through it. Your then at the tip and can go any where from there. South West Coast and then head over the border, play in the mountains, head to the north coast, or do the lakes which are not far from there either. Its down to you guys!!!
To put it into perspective I set off from St Moritz Switzerland at 8am. I was home and in bed for 11pm the same night. I would have made it from PArma in Italy home in 20 hours if I had not been stopped by the police helicopter in northern italy. You cant go wrong in this neck of Europe, its all wonderfull.
Ill be on a rental FRJ so no scratching for me and TOM will be on the Rocket for pegs need looking after.

I did 1200 miles in one night from Valencia. Took me 18hrs of constant riding mind you. Soo close on running out of fuel a few times. Mind you i was on a mission. Can i have a badge for that? 500 miles is a full days riding. The Wales trips weve covered 550 miles of fast riding but knackered the next day. Id say it would be comfortable to do 300 to 400 miles a day.
Not that im jelous of not being able to go. lol. Have to fit a few track days to make up for it instead.

After a good chin wag and gallons of coffee with David from Cleveland advanced motorcyclists group, the trip to Italy has come a little further.
The plan is for the main group to be based in Milan, the reason behind this is that within approx 150 miles of this city there are a number of attractions.
The lakes, Monte Carlo, the twisting roads of the Swiss mountains, Venice… the list goes on.
If we take it easy we will spend 3 days getting there, have four days there and spend three days getting home.
The plan.
Depart UK Wednesday the 25th of June 07:00 from Teesside
Meet up with TOM (TheLondonBikers) at Doncaster; continue to Dover, meeting up with the rest of the London contingent at the docks.
Ferry crossing at 2pm arriving in Dunkirk at 5pm CET (remember it will still be daylight and probably sunny)
Dunkirk to “Mons” (101.2miles) staying there overnight
Thursday the 26th of June.
Depart Mons after breakfast and travel to Strasbourg, a total of 278.7 miles, stopping half way for lunch.
This will have us in Strasbourg early afternoon, sort out accommodation, mooch around the town, eat, drink, take photos etc.
Staying there overnight.
Friday the 27th
Depart Strasbourg after breakfast and travel to Milan. A total of 297.9 miles, stopping halfway for lunch.
Again we will arrive in the early afternoon, giving us plenty of time to arrange accommodation for the 4 nights we will be staying there.
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday can all be spent exploring the areas around Milan, Those wishing to do an overnight (or a 2 day trip) to Rome/San Marino/Florence/ Pisa /Geneva will be able to leave the main party from here do so.
If you just wish to chill out and take in the surroundings of Milan, of course you can just do that instead!
The return journey.
Departing Milan on the morning of Tuesday the 1st of July heading for Munich (Munchen) in Germany. A total distance of 306 miles, stopping halfway for lunch.
Arriving early afternoon, it should give us plenty of time to sort out somewhere to stay before we sample any of the local delicacies (which will be beer in my case) obviously staying in Munich overnight.
Wednesday the 2nd of July
Munich to Koblenz …..317 miles… same protocol as the previous day, overnight in Koblenz
Thursday the 3rd of July
Koblenz to Dunkirk…..290 miles..Overnighting in Dunkirk to get rid of any Euros that you still have.
Friday the 4th of July
Lie in, late “ish” ferry around midday arriving in UK early afternoon.
Londoners away to get sorted out for the ACE café, Northerners sort accommodation close to ACE café for Friday night. Alternatively northerners head back home upon arrival into the UK….. (I will probably be at the ACE)
