A lot of us, are undeniably hooked, some do it for general info seeking, others do it out of boredom, to escape, unwind or relax.
But before forums, internet and or webchat what did you used to do in the evenings, or even when bored at work without a lot to do?
At least our children were born into this "digital age" and for them this is now a normal thing, if they ain't playing playstation they're on the web looking for youtube clips or chat to their mates but for most of us, 10 years ago or more computers were something you used at work to do spreadsheets and type letters or faxes, our evening used to be spent differently.
I remember cycling, going to the gym, motorbike riding of course, and the more I think of it the more I realized we never used to go to bed later than 11:00 pm after a good film on tv.....
What about you, what did you used to do?

Used to be round friends house's or go down the pub and play pool, or stay in and make up music tapes to listen to but then all your mates go and have babies and then the internet comes along

I was too busy being a down trodden wifey to have any spare time! Plus, Mr Loser used to hog our phone line in the days of dial up connections so I couldn't have got online anyway

We just gave away David's Commodore 64 on Freecycle (Freecycle is great by the way, highly recommend it, Google Freecycle + London). Before computers I certainly read more books and I went down the pub more, but then got ill with smoke and got an Amstrad 9512 and started writing more as a result. But now the smoke ban in pubs and restaurants is in force, I am back down the pub more again - hoorah! Just been to Phoenix Denmark Hill SE5 for first tinme in years. Beautiful pub. LOVE the internet and computers though. It's a tool, that's all. A tool which opens the world up and makes it all available in a 2mb heartbeat. Also before computers I think I used to watch more telly, to be honest.

Back in NZ (where most still have dial up) we watched a lot more sport and spent most nights out playing sport. Problem in London is that most people here don't have a mate who is a teacher who has the keys to the local gym or have access to sports areas as you have to pay over the odds or they are just closed.
I only started to use a computer when I got to the UK in 2001. When I first arrived at my current job I was asked to open a word doc. and do something
'> , what a bloody joke that was!. Was looking around thinking how the hell do you open things with this thing (lol). Back in NZ or OZ only some people had the internet and I only used a computer or that type of thing play PS2 games. How times have changed.

Also before computers I think I used to watch more telly, to be honest.
I find I still have the TV on, but usually have my back to it, facing the computer instead.
So I listen to/hear more TV than watch it, even programmes I have recorded.

Yes people you are correct, I don't play with things like a PS2 or anything else like that. I have an RSV and that is where the fun is at

Watched videos with friends with bottomless mugs of tea & coffee. Occasional pub nights. And I trained an heck of a lot too.
Today though, not a lot has changed. The puter doesn't tend to detract away from my other activities, but when on my own, and there's not too much on tv, I'll check email, and check out TLB forums and the like. It's amazing how just checking up on something on the Net can lead you to something else, and then something else... 10 minutes on the Net can easily turn into a couple of hours.
Yet for practical purposes, like writing letters, keeping spreadsheets, and nearly all business affairs, the puter is invaluable. With memory cards being so cheap today, I can carry my whole business around in my phone too with a 2Gb Micro Secure Digital card, which measures 5mm x 11mm.

Before the internet, went to the pub a lot, networked all my mates in there, found then all my mates were printers, postmen and other shift workers. However now get to know people who live normal lives as well, and even meet some of them face to face.
