Wrong place, wrong time
« on: 11, May, 2007, 10:00:17 PM »
Last week I was going down the A1 at 12 o'clock at night, no one in front of me, no one behind me, no one anywhere for that matter. Just before the A1 joins the A406 coming from North London, at the bottom of Falloden Way (NW11) a man comes on to the road, there's me thinking it's some silly bloke walking onto the road, I slowed down, beeped at him, and only realised he was a copper when he shouted 'STOOOOP!' with his arm lifted up.

I got a £60 fine and 3 points. My first ever points after four and a half years of riding. I gave my license in today. Dammit!  '<img'>

If anyone goes gown that route, make sure to slow down, cos they hide behind the bushes on Oakwood Road with a speed gun pointing at Falloden Way.

Grrrrr!  '<img'>

Them tactics were ditched a long time ago I thought.
After a few of them were accidentally run over.
I thought they had to visible at all times in order to give out tickets. ''

You're right. I've read it here that it is wrong (although not illegal) for the police to be hiding, their car/van as well as the officers themselves have to be clearly visible at all times. The problem is that I cannot argue my case based on me not being able to see them, as their hiding does not affect the fact that I have commited an offence. I can only report them for misconduct, which although won't help me, it may help in reducing this type of devious tactics in the long run.

Altohugh, even if I had known this before I got stopped, I'm not sure whether I would want to argue with the copper about his methods because of the speed I was doing.  ':crazy' ':crazy'
It is at the discretion of the police, but doing anything more than 30mph over the particular speed limit could qualify for an immediate ban.

I read somewhere that the guns cannot accurately measure motorbike speed. Go web surfing!

No... stop.... abort....

As aqua herself said, dont argue the point if you've walked away with just three points.

The burden of proof really isnt very high - it can come down to 'The motorcyclist was clearly speeding yer'onor'. Its not worth fighting unless you can bring in another factor (the gun was pointing at a different vehicle, it wasnt me, or maybe, just maybe, if you werent actually speeding). Strong possibility here of ending up with a ban instead...

Three points is a bugger, but thats just the occasional tax you have to pay if you're gonna speed.

Wasn't in the Beano (MCN) by any chance? The web in full of crap and lies with about 10% truthful useful info some of it on forums.

Radar speed guns - crap, Laser speed guns - accurate. They give speed and distance. the distance is used to verify that it was you being targeted and not the nearby tree doing 60mph.

Under H&S guidelines hiding and then walking into road not in Hi-Viz is a big No No. I almost ran a copper over when I was 18 in the days when coppers wore tunics. He was doing speed checks with no hi-viz on an unlit road. Thank goodness he was new and his tunic buttons were shiney. I know his underpants weren't.

This is true as i got Clocked on the A23 in a 30 mph Zone doing 47 mph jumped out in middle of road from behind a bus with his toy purely non-visible but the plod Could not book me his excuse was ''you were doing 47mph in a 30 limit but he could not confirm me doing that speed as there was a car behind me''

Fewww  thank f*ck for that

Theres a little trick for people as some coppers will wait for you to admit your speed well don't,

as if you wanted to fight it plod could lose as theres something different about the mesurements of motorcycle speed i think they really got to have a steady hand ,

Could you imagine how annoying it is for them if your not riding in a straight line and not only that were sometimes blessed for tickets as the average plod will be clocking you from front with no licence plate to record on there device lol....

Alls i say you got to  Beat the plod at there game they sly to you be sly back  ':p'  '<img'>

Plods get there brownie points by catching you's out

i get my Brownie points by playing there game

If you read what I said in my second reply, you can guess what speed I was doing and why I dont want to mention it on a public forum. Call me paranoid, Duffy.

Anyway...

I dont think speed limits should be absolute! They should depend on conditions, visibility, skill, awareness measured against safety. The only problem is that it would be hard to measure such subjective reasoning.

Research? Definitely! But not from the web. I will try to find a good book on something like 'Rights and Regulations Made Easy' or similar. Where certain laws interact with one another, there may be many ways out of the system.

Re Speeding, points and fines. I think this one has been covered before, but would it work?

TOP TIP:
How to stop getting points on your licence for
speeding. If you get a fine for speeding for
say £60, send them a cheque for £61.  They will
send you a cheque back for £1.  Tear that
cheque up, never cash it.  They cannot legally
put the points on your licence until all
  financial transactions have cleared.  This
means that you will have paid the fine, but you
won't get the points on your licence.
  Apparently.
It's not 'IF', it's 'WHEN?' and 'HOW BAD?'
