We all know the risks us bikers take everyday riding. Shame it takes an incident like this for it to really hit home. Whose fault was it?

Sorry to hear about your brother Terry, he’ll bounce back, we always do. I know it’s hard, but don’t let it put you off riding mate. Best wishes and a speed recovery goes out to your Bro.

Thanks all.

Not sure what happened exactly I think someone pulled out on him. Just a shock for me to see his jacket all holed and and see him lying there. He will be ok he gave me a smile and told me not to crash cause it hurts he always is one for laughing when things go bad.

I will pass the messages on and I shall ride home carefully x

Be careful indeed out there, best luck to your bro Terry.

As an advice to all, instead of spending 400 quid on pimping your bike, invest them in an advanced rider's course, and I emphasize the word INVEST.

Not going off topic but an advance riding course will help but if someone blind sides you there is nothing you can do. This is in no way saying that the courses are not great but at the same time don't think a course will save you from the twit who does not look before turning becasue they have just changed the radio station, talkinig on the phone, etc. The best thing I've been told is to always keep an eye out for trouble but enjoy the ride.

Great to see the lad having a laugh Terry. When I've been in hosptial I've always wanted to make the people who vivist laugh as we all know how $hit life is in a hospital.

Be safe, as you always are, and ever will be '<img'> .

Cheers people.

I will go and see him again after work see how he is getting on. He is having an operation tonight to put a plate in his arm so it sounds quite bad.

There is some nerve damage in the arm too as he is having trouble moving his fingers.  '<img'>

Not agreed. Advanced courses will certainly increase your awareness and anticipation skills, watching wing mirrors, heads, tyres etc..

The whole aim is to minimise risk, which is always going to mean safer riding from A to B in the majority of journeys.

Sorry for deviating Terry, I really hope that your brother comes out of this okay, seeing you there must really cheer him up.

Hope he gets better soon, a positive attitude is half the battle, and it sounds like he's taking it well.
Don't dwell on it though when your riding, a twitchy rider is not good!

Which is why I suggested the advanced course in the first place, as one of the main goals of the course is accident prevention skills.

I am on my 29th year of riding and I have come close a few times but never yet kissed tarmac, touching wood I owe this both to my Advanced course and the fact that I come from one of the toughest traffic towns in the world, once you learn to ride or drive safely in Naples the rest of the world looks easy in comparison.

Give your brother our best wishes Terry

Rider training is essential as it teaches to anticipate hazards but there a difference when the hazard are upon you and there isnt much you can do.

With my last accident, i stopped at a zebra crossing to let a pedestrian cross, the pedestrian starts crossing and in my mirror is see a car approaching rather fast and by the looks of it was not going to stop in time, i couldnt do anything, the pedestian was crossing already, so i couldnt run her over, if i found a space to  go through, the pedestrian would have been knocked down by the car and guess what the car hit me at near enough 40mph. '<img'>  It was one of those instances that happened so fast and there was nothing i could do.
RIP Ali.

advanced rider training would have taught you to always have a getaway.

ninja training would have taught you to backflip off the bike (whilst flipping the sidestand down) and punch/kick the front of the car with such devastating force that not only would the car have stopped on impact, but the shockwaves would have been felt up to 9 miles away.

Cheers so much for the replies  '<img'>  really good of ya I am going to print the pages off and take em to hospital so he can have a read.

Come back from the hospital just now and he looks a lot better sitting up. His op is due tomorrow estimated to be about 4 hours long as they have to put a plate in and try and repair nerve damage also.

I will keep u updated. x
