TOO BLOODY MUCH!!!

Under the impression that I would have a ~£60 refund (less £25 admin fee) once I have the bike garaged at home (N11), rather that at my instructor's storage unit (TW14), I took out an insurance policy witn Bennetts @ £432.06, Comprehensive, with legal and personal injury cover. No NCB, had 3 points in 2002, and one accident in 2005 as named driver for a car.

I had in mind that, once the bike is home, I'll call the insurers, and use the refund to pay for breakdown-roadside rescue. And hopefully still have at least £20 refund to me.... Anyway. Now that the bike is at home in N11, the insurers want another £18 ON TOP!! Hey, that wasn't what I was told....

I have already got the name of the Team Leader/line manager of the person who sold me the policy. I'm going to give her a piece of my mind once she is out of the meeting. or, this afternoon.

Not only is an almax chain on the way - there is a B** F****** CAR BLOCKING the entrance to the garage, how the feck is any thief going to get to my bike?? Another £18? I don't get it.

None the less, Bennetts IS giving me the best quote there is, so I might just have to cough up that £18. Dang, the kind of stuff you do when you're in lurve...

If you're unhappy with your policy, just cancel it.  You have a 7 day cooling off policy with insurance companies and I understand that this is law.  Check it out with the FSA if you want to make sure.

I don't think that having the bike initially stored at your instructors place has anything to do with the premium increment/refund.  The bike will be kept at your home home address, garaged, in a secured (gated) residential area.

Cheers, Ace. That's what I did.

Kelly at Bennets sorted me out with the policy that was ~£60 cheaper, and because they messed up in two things, namely 1, telling me that there would be a "refund", which actually involved a cancellation that I wasn't told about; and 2, they were supposed to have called me over the "refund" but never did. I chased them up on it twice and in the end, as a goodwill gesture they waived the cancellation charge of £30.

So overall I am ~£50 better off, now WITH breakdown coverage too.  ':lurve:'

Glad to be of help Glo.  Ask them to confirm it all in writing, ideally with an apology.  You then have evidence that Bennets screwed up, and that may be something you need in future, should they mess up again, you can refer back to the letter saying "this is not the first time time that you have been negligent in such matters".  Words are worth nothing if they are not admitted to or proveable.  (You know this from being involved in the meeting with P/Green URC and I'm grateful that you & Ify came along as witnesses to that.)

Acey-dude, thanks for the reminder. Bennetts have been clumsey but none the less professional so far. They do have a 0800 number also, so I'll be reminding them of my refund very regularly. Good opportunity to practice my credit control skills.

Found these insurers who are chucking out pretty impressive quotes I must say.

onlymotorbikeinsurance.com

insureyourbike.com

both are using the same interface and database set up and are affiliated to the same parent company though I found onlymotorbikeinsurance.com to be the cheapest of the two plus they can give you a preliminary quote in under 3 minutes not bad.  '<img'>

RESULT - only £25 more to change over to the new bike!    '<img'>

that makes your total premium £126......
Its not a competition (cos that would be childish).

but mine is only £119 fully comprehensive! ':p'
I can ride other bikes, go abroad, take a pillion and even ride it naked....i think  ':crazy'  £225 excess

If anyone can better that this year, I'll buy you a pint!

Excellent, I just finished my insurance hunting. Gone with Westhill on 08005835831.

I'm 28, 7 years NCB on record at MCE (not quite sure how, probably more of their terrible housekeeping), but I had a theft of my 6 day old gixxer 6 in '05. Also had 3 points from '03.

£334.90 Fully Comp, Euro Breakdown, Euro Cover, Legal, 3rd party other bikes.
I'm quite happy with that, and if you speak to Deniz, she was very friendly.

That's on a 2000 ZX6R
is that thunder i can hear?

I was thinking mine isn't too bad: £555 TPFT for a multibike policy (CBF600 and a ZX6R), incl. breakdown and Euro cover for up to 90 days. No points, 1 year NCB. But nothing beats fully comp which is just outta my price range ... '<img'>

Ok, well here comes  a fast ball...

I want :

1. An insurance Co, that does what it says on the tin
2. Will update me at every turn in the event of an accident
3. Will fight my side when it goes wrong and a claim is made
4. will not rip me off in the process and find some "small print"
to get themselves out of paying up
5. will see each and every claim/accident on its own merits   and not just what they have been trained to say which is normally TOUGH.
6. will not try to keep my no claims from me when entitled.

In truth to have an honest to goodness company that will look after me in the event off...

I dont really mind too much of the cost.
