!france trip plans and warm ups before we go!
« on: 12, February, 2007, 06:44:32 PM »
Ok Not much time left to sort things out for are France trip, This topic does also apply to people going to spain as well as there are warm up rides involved and would help if we start organizing some warm up rides to various different places which will help us find out what pace you rather be,

It would be nice if we can start having opinions and planning who will be travelling with who on any pace or routes so we as a group understand what everything will be like for the trip and put many minds at ease what ever information you would like to share please do so as it will help.

So everyone lets get Cracking and planning on views ect.... ect........... '<img'>

Just want things to run smoothly for everyone ''

In other words help me out!!!!!! '<img'>

Think it’s a great idea to arrange some ride outs to prepare for France (and Spain for those who are going) it will give us a chance to see how others ride, and arrange a number of different groups levels so everyone feels comfortable. I thought the route had already been set? I’ve got to be honest my plan is just to keep up with my group leader whoever that maybe. Think you should pick a couple of different days for the pre-rides, so everyone who wants to come along can make it.

I’ve only just got back on the bike after a month off thanks to my broken toe! So the more catch-up riding I can do the better so count me in for a couple of days.

I’ve not organised a massive ride-out the size this ones getting, but I’m sure there are some old hands on TLB who could give some tips and advice. I just want to make sure that this event will be as fun and safe as you could hope for on two wheels. Only a month to the big day! Roll on 17th March!

PS: Was a good idea at the time to book the group booking on my credit card, would have been a better idea to have banked the cash! ':blush'

In other words help me out!!!!!!

I’m watching this thread with interest, and I can’t believe no one else has any input into this ride out, I.E; how they think it should be run, concerns, suggestions, safety tips, or any other useful info. Now I’m really worried…..

I thought this site was all about the camaraderie, and the general common interest for two wheels. I’ve got the impression that some TLB members have either pulled out or not going on this as it’s been opened to other forums?

With the number of expected attendees for this ride it could get messy without some tips and advice from the more experienced among us.

Clints crying out for any help and guidance you can offer.

Don't put more than 30 people in a group. With 5 or so "good riders" in each group to take the lead and look after the back (both having each others mobile numbers) you can keep the group together. Also, if you are going to make a petrol station one of the stops have a check to see if there are 2 close together to keep time down. One last thing. Maybe keep an eye on those that smoke and those that don't. I've been told ( '<img'>  ) that people who don't smoke don't like to wait around an age for the others.

Nothing much else to do apart for get the bike other there and go like DUCK '<img'>

Thanks Mat, some good suggestions.

Your fast enough to be my leader, are you game enough to take up the challenge? Go on... you know you want too.

That way you can be on my smoke breaks!  ''

Considering there is 60+ people going on this trip, there is not that much you can sort out. ideally with this amount of riders, different skill levels etc you have 2 choices. either it'll be a gentle rideout where everyone keeps the speed down with 1 person leading the ride, one tailmarker and maybe a few inbetween knowing the route.
or you kind of do it like a trackday organisation. novice, inters and fast. obviously fast group out first then inters then slow. again one person in front that sets the pace and a tailmarker per group. it would help the novice group if they have an experienced leader and tailmarker.
the way you want to do it is entirely up to you.
there will be a lot of different skill level involved in this trip and a lot of people I haven't ridden with, or even met.
If I remember correctly there was a rideout from MCN ninjas/visordown that had a big accident, if I think there was over 20 bikes involved in it.
If you find any spelling mistakes, you can keep them.

Was thinking about what you said Saint thats the last thing we want to happen, mabee if we have no more than 15 bikes to each pace and make people aware that this is not a who is boss Game this is for everyones Safety and Welfare

or we can do 2 seperate Routes which will nearly be paralel routes, so halfes the load we got will make it 50% safer for us all, and i think the Other 50% to make safer will depend on us all comunicating together and making sure we all are comfortable with everything that is going on (':\''<img'>

Are those who self-appointedly consider themselves France ride-out veterans[1] going to meet up in RL beforehand?  This might help sort out what is feasible and what is not.  Tossing ideas around on a web-forum doesn't quite cut it...

Yam, I think Saint is bang on here and while I'm looking forward to the ride I'm not that interested in a rear end meeting of new people.

Anyway, just to note that I'm not up for leading a group (I don't follow maps well or anything like that), but I'll run the tail or anything else that you come up with.

Riz, as for smoke stops....we are both on thous so we'll nip off and hide away whenever we want '<img'>

OK I’ve got some questions if anyone can answer them,

1.What are the French police like on dark visors? And sports cans?

2.Do I have to put either a yellow tint or something on my headlight to change the beam direction?

3.Do you have to change the Speedo to KPH? Come to think of it what is the speed limit in France?

Wot a rideout ,well done Yam!

Is there really 60 going? If so it's gonna be a right pisser getting petrol on the other side isn't it. Surely we need to split into smaller groups while we gas up and then meet up later at a nice easy place enroute.

Do we have a map of the route with petrol stations marked?

I think that's a good idea - I can only imagine the reaction to 60 odd bikes bowling up en masse to fill up.

I think the group leaders / tail guys need to be id'd quick and a pic (in kit and bike) put up to help recognition - also the pre ride outs is a great idea too.

multi groups is a good way or have 2 routes as has been suggested - what if one lot did the route in one direction to the other - we'd still meet halfway somewhere for lunch and back at the terminal for the return trip...
No longer on crutches and looking forward to putting my bike back together....
