Got my licence back from sending it off for the address change last week and I have just pulled it out to show my work mate what a Motorcycle entitlement looks like. To my horror its not on there.

I have just waited 40 minutes to get through to the DVLA and some jumped up welsh tosser told me it happens all the time and not to worry just send the licence back in with either

A. a copy of the licence I sent in (Silly me did not take one)
or B. a copy of my CBT and Direct access pass cirtificate

I dont have my origional pass certificate, Thought I wousl not need it after I passed!

This does sound strange. Can you not just have a cop look on the computer to tell you if you are able to ride a motorbike?

Surly the company the cop looks at is driven by the DVLA Server?

This happend to my dad's licence had full entitlement on his previous licence then decided to swap it for UK Licence and Trucks and motorcycles has dissapeared,

I think ill stick with my Current International Licence Cant be bothered with the hassle,The cops get P*ssed of with it thoe as it dont show under uk system, but the law says im UK/Ireland Citizen which entitles me to keep my original Licence

I know. This is why I'm lost as to how the hell someone has taken off your bike part.

Anyone know the legal side of this? Is it up to the DVLA to prove that you do not have a bike licence or is it up to you to prove you do have one?

there was a big thing about this last year or the year before dvla records got destroyed and loads of people had to redo motorbike tests they even had a motorbike cop and he had to take it again and he was employed as a cycle cop and had a copy of his previous licence i had it when i changed mine but lucky enough i had asked and paid for my complete driving record of the dvla when i applied to do the knowledge
so they couldnt argue cos it was an official doc from them

anyway good luck burger when ya take ya test again lol

I heard this too. Only certified docs from the DVLA are accepted. If you've got any advanced qualifications then that might help. Also any speeding points? If the offence was commited on a bike then would that not prove entitlement?
No longer on crutches and looking forward to putting my bike back together....

Rich when redo your test and you do an emergency stop try to remember NOT to do a stoppie!!! ':p'

Seriously though its unbeleivable that this day and age this type of thing could happen.  Dont they have hard drives with all the details on and aernt they backed up and backed up again?  If not why not?  I remember a few years ago this happened and i thought they sorted it out!

Here at work we have a Feds system. Maybe if you asked for a copy of your licence from your insurance company? They would not have paid out if they could have proven that you do not have a licence?

Or what about you’re insurance Rich? I had to send in a copy of both parts of my licence for mine. See if you can get a copy off them. The other thing you could try is going back to the test centre you passed with and explain what’s happened and see if they can give you a copy of your pass certificate.

PS: I've got a spare set of L plates if you need them  '<img'>

I think the moral of the story is always photocopy anything important before you send it. Especially if it’s going to DVLA.

I got six points for speeding last year, gave my licence into the court and they put the points on and sent it back to me. I have just had a letter from DVLA saying that I have not had my points put on and they want me to send my licence back to them again? I don’t think they know what their right from left!
