Bike luggage for spain
« on: 23, January, 2007, 09:47:59 AM »
Hey,

In light of my broadening horizons on the bike this year, I need to invest in some bike luggage.  You guys always know what’s best, so can you give me some advice on what to buy.

I have a Bandit 600

I already have an Oxford medium tank bag, and that non-slip web sheet stuff to protect the paint.

Thanks!!

Oxford or Givi always come out well in tests... see if you can access the Ride mag tests online. If not I have millions of back copies, there's bound to be a review somewhere in there

Don't get them started again - last time there was a "best luggage" thrread it nearly turned into "rant of the year".

Have a look here I am taking this and a tank bag to Spain. I think with a tank bag on small and this opened up would should fit 2 pair of shoes, 4 socks, 2 jeans, and other things  '<img'>
Hope you are making jokes and have a smile on your face my Danish diplomatic friend. Long may your memory live!

Eh! what do you mean? Clothes?

I need enough room for 1 litre Vodka, 1 litre of rum,  2 slabs of dairy milk, 180 tea bags, 1 bog roll, the pack lunch that me mum's making, Ipod speakers and a bikini.

Thank goodness we got back on topic... I thought the thread was heading for behind the bike shed again.

Nice one Westie and I have a question then...
Don't the panniers get hot on the exhaust side?
Do you think the bag that Matt is gonna get will fit all the stuff he's taking?  I think that Rich had the same one for Germany?

Yes, but that's Ok, that's the side the still-damp, sink-washed knickers go in, so they're nicely steamed out by the time you get there.

I shall be taking a large cylindrical waterproof holdall (Hein Gericke £30) strapped accross the pillion seat with a couple of "Rok" straps.

I've done a lot of travelling with this bag I find it's a lot simpler, easier and more reliable than panniers or tail packs and it is totally waterproof and very durable.

Just checked and it doesn't look like HG do them anymore but Ortlieb do a "Motorcycle Dry Bag" which actually looks better than the one I have, see www.ortlieb.com

I've got panniers you can use, I had them on my bandit when I went to germany a couple of years ago, no problems.
If you find any spelling mistakes, you can keep them.
