Ok, Looks like 2007 is going to be a good year for rideouts, would be even better if we could talk while on the ride, point out problems, slag somones corner etc.
So, can i get feedback on what people use, then i will compile a list and we can make some choices, that is if u r interested

Keep me posted Clint, we may get a better deal if we get a couple at the same time. We can always use them again on other ride outs.

Telepathy works for me. But as I generally ride with women, it's a required form of communication. ':blush':

Tried a bike to bike intercom last year on a trip to Cornwall, not sure what the make was, but it was rubbish at motorway speeds. Hated the idea initially but can see the benefits too.

Lee!! You sad man! Not happy with your other half nagging at home, that you must put up with that on the bike too? f### that!!! lol

Just kidding Lee ':p'  the idea of intercom amongst other riders is actually a good one specially if these have quite a wide range and you can assist lost riders or those who get left behind to rejoin the group. I know I need one of them fo shu!

PMR446 radios are the usual, they're legal and fairly easy to use, and they all communicate with each other. Becca and I both have them, we used them in France and on a rideout in Rye. That's the basic radio, then you need to decide how much money you have to spare.......

If you don't mind much about slowing down to 60mph to hear then just buy a headset for a closed face lid.
If you want to go faster and clearer then invest in a starcom or autocom (which we're gonna get eventually)

All this stuff is quite nicely priced at Maplins, or on ebay look for any radio that is PMR446. We have cobra microtalks and they seem to work okay, it's really the headset that's the limiting factor. If you can afford autocom/starcom then buy one, it greatly increases your hearing and speaking quality and you can put MP3 players, phones and satnavs through it too..
is that thunder i can hear?

Top advice thanks Si. I am looking to get one for Spain, to link up with Alba and BB, so if we see any nice shoe shops en route, we can let each other know we are about to stop. '<img'>

I've got an autocom which I use with the phone, it's clear up to above 100mph, depending on surrounding traffic, the other end can't hear me quite as well as I can hear them as they get a bit of wind noise, but it's not a prob, cos if someone rings up I slow down and then they can hear OK. I use a battery-powered one, as I don't want to be plugged into the bike as I get on and off quite a lot. The only trouble I get is that my colleague insists on ringing me on my other phone, so I miss all his calls. Plonker.

Would have to say that AutoCom are the best, the next best being Sonic-Communications (Sonic Bike2Bike). The biggest problem with bike coms is getting the right package. The system is basically two parts; the RF tranceiver and the audio interface. If you don't get both right then you end up not being able to communiate properly. AutoCom have the audio interface bit sorted but they still rely on someone else to provide the RF tranceiver of which iCom is alledged to be the best for range and clarity of transmission. The tranceivers are basically PMR446 units which are relatively low power units and subject to interference from all sorts of sources, the main one being minicabs. Remember this is 'old' analogue technology, so anyone who remembers mobiles before they went digital will know the problems.
Your best bet for getting a comms deal is to go to Ally Pally show.

We've got autocom which we use with VOX Kenwood radios which are pretty good.  Won't say in public at what speed you can hear them up to, but put it this way - RO can hear me stuttering "oh shite" quite clearly at certain speeds!!!!   '<img'>  '<img'>
