Do we push on and get the calendar ready in Jan with a view for first sales in Feb?

or

Do we keep all the pictures back and then make the calendar ready for this time next year?

If we push on, we will miss the Christmas present market and maybe not sell as many calendars….. but it could be considered as a trial run for next year.

The Situation

Funding
After a bit of phoning around this morning the funding is sorted (Burger’s a star and gets more of the credit than I).

Charity
The Breast Cancer Charity still need to be notified about what we are planning to do, as we should really seek their consent and get their logo.  We also needed the logos and graphics of all the sponsors, then allow them to approve the artwork on how their company will be portrayed in the calendar.

Printers
Fruity has sorted the cost and type of calendar with the printers and he is still willing to do the Artwork.  However, in order to get the calendar ready for selling in December we needed to have all the pics and Artwork finished for this Friday 15th.  So that’s not good news because of the shortage in pictures.

Pictures
We are 4 pictures short however there was an excellent idea ‘Bikes, Tits, n Bits’ to use some other pictures of bikes in bits, exploded pistons and engines to fill in the blanks and we could even get a picture of everyone on Sunday’s Toy Run.
People will forget what you have said and they will forget what you have done--but they will never forget the way you made them feel.

already posted this thought on previous...

i think its amazing that you and burger have managed to raise the funding, but as you know, my opinion is that we are probably better off saving it for next year and doing a really professional job, which will:

a/ keep sponsors happy - so they might be inclined to support us in the future with similar fund raising

b/ give us plenty of time to sell it - we can put it on sale as early as we like

c/ give us all something to be proud of

d/ avoid dread having to run round like a headless chicken chasing people for photo shoots!

thats my tuppence worth anyway...

'<img'>

P.S. How did you guys raise the money? Some serious sweet talking methinks!  ':devil'

Breast Cancer Campaign?
If you want to raise money for them and just give it to them, thats easy. Go ahead and do it...

...But if you want to use their logo and use their name to sell the calendar then thats a whole different kettle of fish. There's masses of red-tape for that kind of thing - they're a registered charity (obviously) and have to keep their nose very clean, which means they need to be absolutely certain that the fundraisers (ie TLB) also keep their noses clean. Its not just a matter of sticking their logo somewhere on the calendar and off you go.

if you want the charity officially involved, then I dont think you have a choice - it'll take months to get everything sorted out.   ':crazy'

(Guess who's just spent the last month dealing with the BCC trying to get them to fund some research....)

Not sure why you're so negative about this Col? '<img'>  And why do you think we wouldn't sell many?
The pics that Dread took were very professional and tastefully done.  Even I was amazed at how good he made us all look - if people dont wanna look at them then dont buy the calendar - simple as that?
':p'
And Westie doesnt get many nights in alone!!  He's always got me around poor guy!! '<img'>
The only real time we have is now. All other times don't exist. Yesterday is a picture-postcard of a time that died. Tomorrow is a mind's eye promise that may never come.

OK:

THIS year - donate direct to the charities

NEXT year - buy the damn calendar! (I will - even though I am not related in any way to those pictured)

I'm not entirely in agreement Col......I see Tams every day.....it's other peoples pics I wanna see! Folk who I consider friends who've taken time to provide a bit of fun for a good cause.

I've seen Tams pics, with my bike in, and they are great....but it's more about saying we are The London Bikers and we can get our shit together and achieve something good.

As much as I hope people will still donate the price of a calendar (whatever it was) to our designated charity I think some people like to get something for their money as acknowledgement of their kindness.

I wouldn't buy the big issue and then take it home and bin it......I'd either read it for what it is or give the boy/girl the cash and let him/her sell the unit I was gonna bin anyway.

So lets sell a virtual calendar this year....as in virtually invisible (you get a well done sticker on request) and give our cash to the charity anyway as several folk have suggested.

Worst comes to the worst I'll do a sponsored Sake drink.

There was a cartoon in Private Eye last week. It was a spoof advertisment for a calendar along the lines of
"Buy our calendar in which a group of people actually keep their clothes on! Unique!"

...which just goes to show that while the WI had a good idea, its been done to death since.

Can I just point out that there are no naked lady's in any of the pics, the bikes are a major part of the pictures because that's what holds this group of friends together, yes you will see some flesh but no more than you would at say the beach party...

Having said that, if R O has a week ticker, then he may need supervision when checking dates...   '<img'>

Nar, I aint going back to the sponsors, (dealers, Agents, Tool sales, Letting agents etc) and asking them to give their money to charity. I sold this is an advertisment to their business, with the hits we get on this site, sales in shops and a news agents chain I poked around in.

Leave it till net year then, Oh well, that was a quick 6 month pursuit, Well Done Daniel for snapping the people you got and shame on you the ones who pulled out! '<img'>

Well it wouldn't make any difference to me whether there were or were not - I don't normally want pics of naked ladies but whatever in this case it's just that I appreciate the effort everyone made so would buy it anyway.   But if all were naked were just cover those bits up for the sake of RO's blood pressure!   '<img'>  '<img'>

I'll go with whatever the majority decide.  if you leave it till next year I'll lose weight and join in if you like - hehehehe   then you can see how much better everyone else looks in contrast.   Actually i could lose weight for the charity if you sponsored me and not join in with the photos - that would be better yes?    '<img'>

Hi all - just been sent here from the 'other site' :-)

Would be really cool to see the TLB calendar - sounds much more 'revealing' than ours!

But if you guys are really considering holding off until next year, why not get behind the LB calendar and help us raise money for the LAA - forget all the politics all we're all trying to do is raise some money for a very worthy charity - and if we can get over that then I think we can achieve something good together...

So with that in mind, please help support LAA by buying the charity calendar here

Charity Calendar

PS - I completely understand if you chose to remove this URL.

I believe the normal protocol here at TLB is to at least to introduce yourself before setting out your stall, you wouldn't want anyone to think you were just here to sell the LB calendar now would you ? '<img'>
