Looking for left hand bends and curves
« on: 11, December, 2006, 01:08:27 PM »
Sounds silly I know…… but when I got my new bike many of you said to practice curves and sweeping bends to get used to the weight of the bike.  I’ve made a note of roads that I found difficult, then gone back to practice and have had a load of fun on roundabouts.  However I am now looking for some left hand turns and practice as this is my weaker side.

Have you got any suggestions?

As mad as it sounds.....Scorps suggestion is what I did to learn my lefties. Go out at night and go round 'em the wrong way.

There is a good road from the M40 to Thame.....will look it up for you......it's pretty good as each bend is tight and shell-gripped.

how about a ride to the continent where they drive in the opposite way, all the roundabouts should be to use to you then '<img'>

You can do track days any time but you have to pay '<img'>
go out and practise on nice long slip & entry roads on most m-ways & a roads which is free all the time (at the moment)

Traffic is only going one way, chose a quiet time of day ie early morning's at weekends (means not drinking like a fish the night before thou  ':p'  ) and you usualy have two lanes to play with so you can be really safe with your positioning,
watch out for the superelevation thou which is similar to camber but the road surface all falls in the same direction.
see Roadcraft page 89.

find you self a route where you can use get on to & off again in a short distance, I use m23 slip toward croyden then cut through chipstead & blackhorse lane back to reigate hill to m25/m23 again, no more than 10 miles! anybody know or use any others
Apart from the one at a21 slip off the 25 going south towards hastings
 ':devil'  ':devil'

Remember to lift your vision and set your self achiaviable goals & if you take your time & relax your conifedence will grow  '<img'>

Hmmm that kind of urinates all over that idea then. Still, I laugh in the face of urination (I think there's a name for that sort of thinkg... ) - I shall do some research and find something in March we can go on. Ain't no way I'm going on a track in Spain without having been on a track in England - they race on the wrong side of the road lol

I'd be up for a trackday at Brands in March, fairly cheap as I am still borasic after paying for the boiler to be fixed, surely 2007 can't be as expensive as 2006 has proved to be ':p'

Oooo tempt me!...... It's ma birthday weekend

Just another silly question....Do they actually give you some training or is it just a blast around a track?  I was wanting a bit more than just to open up the throttle.

Tell them what you want when you call to book and they will arrange for someone to ride with you and show you the lines for a couple of sessions. All covered in the cost and great for gaining confidence.

Trackdays are about riding as fast or slow as you want, no pressure and Focused take a hard line on people who intimidate slower/less experienced riders.

Bikerbiker,

I think I need to take this advice on board. I have had my bandit for 3 weeks now and dropped it 4 times!! One smashed indicator, one broken brake lever, a scraped exhaust and mirror and - horrors - slightly damaged fairing '<img'>

Funnily enough it always seems to fall to the right, the side the * very heavy * exhaust is. Maybe I need an aftermarket exhaust...

stockley park roundabout this summer

It was cool in the early days when only a few bikes turned up unfortunately not as good nowadays once the boy racers in their cars turned up and then everyone got banned from the area.  Putting in the traffic lights on the by pass did not help either!
Other left handers
Rickmansworth onto the M25 heading east.
Maidenhead junction off the M4 going East.
A40 into Oxford (just past the M40 roundabout)
Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.
5 out of 16 is good enough!
