There is more of a chance of me texting Saint to go to the pub than there is of me asking Grandma.
I go to the pub with Grandma. We just don't open a thread about it every time.

I hardly ever go on rideouts, just not my thing really. I ride alone usually - the solitude is one of my favourite things about riding, but I still socialise a bit with various members, I wouldn't ride past Trouty's house or CSD's or Christine's or Colin's (or anyone who's address I know) without calling to see if they had the kettle on, two members dropped in on me at work yesterday in their lunchbreaks, someone rings up with a welding query about once a week, etc etc.
We all want different things from the site, which is good.

The London Bikers is, i hope, a developing club (not sure club is the right word, cant say i've ever considered it as a club). Times change, people come and go, outlooks change, viewpoints differ etc etc.
Its the members that determine what happens here ultimately. Sure, there is some moderation, but it is kept to a minimum, and helps to maintain the friendly atmosphere. In a moderation free internet, anarchy will rule. probably.
This place is what YOU make it. If you would like a rideout on the least sunday of every month, regardless of the weather, then make it happen.
as the late great barry sheene once said... dont wait for your boat to reach the shore, swim out and meet the bloody thing!

I thought id add my pennies worth.
I cant say a word wrong, I came down to London because of work, so know very few people who ride and share the motorcycle passion.
Hence why i joined this community. Since i have joined ive had help with routes to ride which id never have known and some tech help ...When it comes to riding this has been great too.. Ive only been a memeber for a few weeks and already there has been open invitations to boxhill for rides, killspills, ace, brighton run etc....so much to do!
In fact this site has helped me get out more on the bike and i thank all involved so keep it up and i hope to meet you all shortly... PS someone posted about the bsb this weekend reminding me early enough to plan for it as my work consumes me at times so therefore have went and got tickets.
Just to let you all know iv not been riding long and if anyone is planning a medium skilled ride... Im up for it.

right time for my two penneth
there are plenty of things going on for everyone and if you feel that there isnt suggest things, just because people dont stick there names down doesnt meen they wont do them or that they dont want to. its very hard for everyone to get time
as you know Si you are as bad as anyone cos ya work shifts
myself i cant always get time off work as i work alot of weekends
as for the so called clique thats not true everyone that turns up is always welcome MAT i have seen you turn up on some things and everyone is pleased to see you as with any other member .
the whole thing with the chatting and not riding thing is
box hill on a wednesday was intended to be a place where anyone wishing to meet any of us could come and see what we was about, make friends, introduce themselfs find out whats happening in the near future, SO IF AND WHEN THEY DID DECIDE TO COME ON A RIDE OUT THEY WOULD ALREADY KNOW SOME PEOPLE ON HERE AND FEEL PART OF THINGS
the same goes for the ace on fridays if anyone wants to organise one for the part of london they come from please do, i am sure some of us will make the effort to come along
these are for general socialising and chit chat
as for newbies frightened or intimidated to come on ride outs
i can see that! westie was a prime example as he explains in his post
they read stuff on here about IE: burger and get the wrong impression i like riding with burger he can be sensible and is a skilled rider tho can be a bit silly sometimes but so can we all
theres to many people sometimes giving advise on how and not to ride to fast to slow ect ect
all i can say is ride at your own pace and abilitys and if thats to slow or to fast then to bad you will find thats most of the time there are riders happy that you are going slower so they dont feel that they have to keep up
if its gona be a fast ride then the person who organises it should say so
also coments to riders about how they ride is not always welcome if they ask then its ok.
take for example grandma she has very high qualifications and i have never heard give advise to anyone about how they should ride unless they have asked her
to many would be instuctors sometimes and they wonder why people dont wanna ride with them.
yeti and I was chatting up box the other day and because of the dark nights and rykers closing earlier i suggested that we have a little night time ride from there.
i went to worthing the other night and called in a fish and chip shop the owner is a biker and said if we came down as a group he would give us discount, so i thought perhaps we could do a ride to there and we can ride as single or as part of a group so anyone wanting to fly off can and anyone wanting to go slow can as long as we all end up at the destination its a straight forward road from box but as i said before the whole purpose of wed nights was to socialise with the bike but tis way we can have a ride to meet at box and meet at worthing so say as soon as rykers closes head for the fish shop
feedback from this would determine if it happens or not
to end this
this is a great site with a great bunch of people from all walks of life and we probably do more than alot of other forums do.
(So any new people that are a little shy join in when you can )
one last note if it was a site for just talking bikes then it wouldnt be such a friendly place but i do agree with matt that sometimes they isnt enough threads about bike related stuff
anyway thats enough from me and sorry bought the puntuation folks i didnt do that day at school so you can breath now lol

One of the things I have always liked about thelondonbikers is that pretty much every kind of biker can be included, regardless of experience. You can join in as much, or as little as you like.
This is a great strength, but can also be a weakness as it means that anyone can come on here and go on about whatever they like. I do find it a bit annoying to have to read through loads of flirtatious, attention seeking banter when I want to read the important bits.
Westie, I am not intending to give up biking if and when I have kids. I am a very experienced and competant rider, it would be a waste. Also, why should only men have all the fun?

Hey! I wasn't saying anyone has to give up anything, what I was saying is that when you have a family, you have less time on your hands to devote your time to biking alone and a lot of people here me included can't do all the events/ride outs we would like because of other "family" commitments.

OK spent a lot of time reading all the comments.
All I can say is that I joined here to meet new people who I hopefully had something in common with. Everyone has been great and real freindly. To be honest I dont get out enough to see everyone, but that has not stopped me joining in and having a laugh on the threads. (OK I know i'm a highjacker but just PM me and tell me to shut up if I go to far I wont get upset).
I will try to restrict my sillyness to the new thread, Trouty you have a great imagination and have done an amazing job as far as I am concerned.
I love this place and have found everyone really great its one of the best things I have done in a long time and am really pleased I joined.
My thanks go out to all of you new and old for making me welcome.

I agree with you there Westie and until you have a family I don't think people will know about the changes having a young one brings.
Tallgirl, I'd like it if someone does PM you about highjaking their thread that you post it on here. After all we are not here writing policy or making rulings on someones life so I see no reason for you to think twice about putting a post up that could make someone smile

boy we didnt have such heated thread in a long time!!
i do too wonder where all this hundreds of TLB's are as i only ever met no more than 20, but i also remember how nervous i was when i first came to the Ace to introduce myself...no offence but from the posts it does look like we all know each other so it can be really intimidating.
about the rides out subject, i was not less nervous when we did the newbies ride out, but it was all due to me if i didnt get too scared riding in a group, again that also could be hard at first for some people. mind you, the first ever ride out i've ever done was the Unity Ride, so i was kind of used to big groups...
i think we should really try hard to get to know the 'silent majority' so i personally will refresh Riz's idea about all the most common bikers meet tour, or 'the Rizla tour' as we called it. the only thing i would add is maybe try to get an idea on where do the most people live so we can organise meeting points. i have no problem getting to the other side of town to pick up a group of people and get them, lets say to the ace for example.
by the way Riz, you dont have to be a routemaster as part of the fun will be getting lost...we could always pick any A road and just follow it all the way through!
how about next sunday? not so early please, you know me...

Blimey I go away for a week & when I come back it takes me another to read through this post
'>
Having been a member on here for only a year or so I really enjoy meeting up with you guys & girls for runs & days out,
before I met up with Stem & his amazing powers of persuasion when dissusing the unity ride last year I did not even know what a forum was, now I think of it as an integural part of the bike "scene" ( bearing in mind that I work, eat sleep & live bikes )
I have picked up a few things along the way in this life & allways try to apply a little bit of common sense.
1. people dont like change ( it scares them )
2. change is inevitable ( you may have to alter the way you do things )
3. people will only do what they want to do ( if they don't they won't )
4. you can't please all the people all the time ( so dont go out of you'r way trying )
this reply is in no way pointing to anyone, it's just the way I see things in my world & I seem to get by fairly stress free.

erm, I fell off my bicycle on wimbledon common last tuesday and have been nursing myself better since, and feeling sorry for myself, so I haven't looged on here for a while.
I always look forward to the Beers and Chinese night that I have attended for the last couple of years and would like to see happen this year too. That is usually an well-attended pre-Xmas do that everyone seems to enjoy. It is also one time of year that I am likely to see members like Dodge, Aceman and Carrie (Wildcat) whom I never usually bump into otherwise.
I like organising rideouts too but this year has been wierd with loads of stuff going on, biking doesn't seem to have been no1 priority, must be getting older! But when I do arrange rides, I consider it successful if just one LBer turns up and enjoys themselves (nice one Redrat,MattP,Si!
'>
'>
I also have found the board quite cliquey recently and whilst I got loads out of the trip to Germany personally, I cannot say that I would go again in such a large group or randoms - it just doesn't seem to work for me and my personality. Besides, everyone was too slow for my godlike self
'>
What I like about The London Bikers.com, is all sorts of bikers doing their own thing and being able to pick and choose when or what to get involved in. I'm not looking for a new family, just people with similar interests to mainly go riding with. Or drink sake with. And assault Kiwis and ashtrays (what a cliquey in-joke that is
