I agree very true, someone did a left hand turn without looking, right in front of me this week on the way to work, I was fine as the brakes are great but I go slower on that bit now.

A sick Ad IMO '<img'> I hope that the next part is someone crossing the road to kick the hell out of the person who opened the car door! I'm getting a little F/O with everything being against us.

Or is this a link to the disappointment from TFL that so many people have gone to motorbikes and bikes after the CC and not to public transport?

Most prob Matt, I have to say Im getting a little bit sick of these sort of adverts. I showed all the girls in my officer the vidoe and their response was, Arrgh well I see motorbikes doing X X X X X X  all the time init! '<img'>

Bad press, Badly put forward, bad advertising, They cant show porn before 9pm but they can show a motorcyclist being paralyised (cant spell).

And as for Euan Mcgreggor being the voice, Well I though he had more sense!

Well if the previous advert had been true the rider would have evaded, did anyone notice the rather sped up video footage, or maybe that was a production problem in the video.
I appreaciate the government is trying to increase awareness but I have to ask what is prompting them to produce the video, real concern for rider safety or an attempt to reduce riders on the road.
Pleaase note this is my own opinion and dont want to be classed as flaming or dising the advert, its simply my opinion.

this advert makes me sick, it promotes that motorcyclists are unaware, and lets be honest, who here when riding down a street with no oncoming traffic rides that close to parked cars, we dont, cos were not bloody idiots (unlike the makers of this add), if this advert wanted to get the point across of riders needing to be more aware they should try to do it in a joint effort with bikers, not making us look like idiots who dont know better, secondly they should be putting the point across about car drivers not looking. who ever made this advert should be fired for being such a twat

Excuse me for saying so, but some of you seem to be quite put up, against your government...or at least the part that envolves road circulation.

I know that "the neighbours grass is always greener", an I'm not into the "every day business", but.....beleve me......reading your posts, I get to think that in UK, bikers are cared for, much more than in Italy

Can't remember now which posts I'm talking about, but as soon as I remember, I'll post them

For now, I'll just say that YOU have much more rights, tha US (Alba should be able to confirm)

Yes, it is a scarey advert.  They should've have made it perfectly clear that it was not the bikers fault, and yet he still ended up being the victim.

I STILL reckon that part of applying for a car licence should be an obligatory 100 hours on a motorbike on public highways first.  Better still, you can't apply for a car licence unless your been riding a bike for over a year.  Maybe even allow people to ride mopeds from the age of 15 or whatever it is in Italy/France where every car driver seems to be far more aware of, and courteous towards, bikes.

If the Ad was balanced and showed CORRECTION to aviod this outcome then I'd be happy with it. But all you are left thinking is that bikes and bad and if you ride one something bad will happen.

All I want to know is who is the Ad for?

let them know what we think of their anti bike Ad.

well said, it is unreal the difference between the speed of the traffic here and in Italy, i must admit i sort of play with it a lot...the reaction of drivers at traffic lights are generally very slow and sorry if i say so but people generally tend to obey the traffic regulations here.

i think the 'think' campaign is been quite good so far, this last one maybe for once wants to point out that is also our responsability to look out for idiots thats all.  i also think that if you see that ad you'll remember to check behind next time you open your car door.

i didnt feel it was far from the truth but its just my personal opinion.  when you travel on the same road everyday you tend to be over confident and the way i see it they just want to tell people to be extra careful, like that other one with the bloke on the 749 (my favourite!'<img'>, because there ALWAYS going to be somebody on the road who is not.  i've lost count of the near-misses i've had so far, i can only thank my reflexes for not being dead.

I am very pleased that the government are investing money in making hard hitting adverts raising the awareness of various dangers of the road - including the speed kills adverts, and the more recent bike adverts.

IMO, this ad does not insinuate that bikers are irresponsible, careless drivers - it is mearly a stark reminder to US and maybe to the more thoughtful car drivers, what complacancy can result in.

The last bike ad was clearly aimed at the drivers and did indeed show a situation where a rider was put at risk from a car driver who wasnt looking where he was going.

In any case, I think, if the ad makes us take that extra bit of care, just once, on our usual route to work, then its done its job - which is to improve road saftey through raising awareness of the dangers.

I would compare it to seeing a bike accident on the road. Don't know about you guys, but if I see one, I pretty much always slow the pace down at least for the rest of the journey. Thats not to say, I ride to quickly for my skill, because I don't. I just like to increase my chances of a safe, uneventful journey home.

I don't think these ads are enough, or paint a balanced picture of road hazards - but they're getting there.

You would have to agree that after many years of putting out Ad's to address the problems cars play in a bikers life they would have it correct by now. IMO this Ad lacks the key thing that all government Ad's should show BALANCE.

I was thinking about this Ad on the way to work and all it done was made me mad '<img'> . I try my best to always look around and always think that the car, person, van, etc is going to try and knock me off my bike.

At the end of the day it is a Ad of the telly for all to see. I only hope that there are not Mums and Dads out there that see this Ad and tell the young one "YOUR NOT HAVING A BIKE!" '<img'>

Yes :agree

On the one hand, these adverts point out key safety features that are to the present motorcyclists benefit.

On the other hand, however, they send a message to potential future motorcyclists, and their families, that motorcycling is inherently dangerous.

For this reason, I feel that this isn't a very effective campaign. My girfriend winces when these adverts are on tv, that isn't going to make me ride better is it? I am a conscientious, responsible rider who can motivate myself to ride better.

So far, I think that the best advert by far was the guy on the Ducati, who has all the upcoming hazards pointed out to him along the way - with a reminder that it isn't always so easy. (maybe someone has a link).

This was a well balanced (in agreement with MattP) advert, delivering information in a manner that encouraged the rider to think more carefully about the signs that the road and the environment offer.

Does anyone have the email address that I can complain/critique the current advert please? ''

It is inherently dangerous mikey  ':oo'

but, i do agree that ad does nothing but fuel the paranoia of parents / loved ones etc... that your gonna kill yourself on your bike - BUT - the advert is not trying to promote motorcycling, its trying to promote THINKING!!!

Maybe I should have added.....

and holds a high risk that the rider will end up paralysed, and there isn't much that your skills can do to minimise the risk, until an advert like this points it out.

Well I really cant take seeing many more of these adverts! it makes me actually feel sick everytime.

That advert might aswell make the rider dead. Its not suitable, we all know accidents do happen.

I actually havent ridden my bike at all this week, and miss it so much, but with adverts like that! makes me think twice.  '<img'>

Maybe if the Ad when it got to the end and the guy was laying on the ground went back 10sec's and then showed that if the rider was in the middle of the road he would have not been hit by the car door?

I agree with having Ad's on TV about road danger but I want balance and don't want my family sitting at home seeing this and thinking "will Matt make it home from work?" '<img'>

If think we are all trying to say (IMO) that we dont mind hard hitting ads pointing out the danger (we are all grown up and we know the risks) but they have to be balanced. As Matt says its our resposability to stay alive, not the car drivers for killing us.
