if you are on private ground, with the owners permission you can do what you like, as long as it doesnt cause jo public any worries, so no wheelies, ok... ':p' ':p'

Have to agree its basically pointless! i done my test in May and it wasnt easy but its perfectly possible. Just dont focus too hard on doing it and you will be fine.

A U turn is for turning your bike around. Not something that is essential to your safety but you will find that once you can do it it is very useful. I use one to turn my bike every time I park up at home. I also use it to turn in side roads every time I go the wrong way, which is often!
I love it when it feels like I'm flying...

Book yourself a few hours with a proper qualified instructor, if you can get a good one then he/she should be able to sort out all your worries and put your mind at rest '<img'>

Also I'll just add my two pence worth, I don't think the u-turn is useless, it's one of the best ways of assessing how good someone is at controlling their bike at slow speed in one easy test (especially if there is some camber thrown in). If you can u-turn your bike then you can do practically any thing else at low speed, like maneuver between stationary cars when filtering, gliding gracefully into parking spaces, avoiding pedestrians/trolleys/cars in car parks etc.

I reckon that if you have to rely on putting a foot down while the bike is moving then you don't really have full control, if you are relying on your foot to hold up a moving bike what happens if your foot slips on something or catches on the ground or if you catch you leg on the footpeg ? The worst scenario is putting your foot down for a quick dab then suddenly finding that you need more than that and your leg gets yanked backwards because the whole weight of the bike is suddenly on it as you topple over...

imo you should never need to put a foot down until you are practically stationary and then only when you are just about to stop. Personally I am always trying to never put my foot down until I have actually stopped the bike because I think it's big and clever ! ':p'

And if you got square tyres you never need to put your feet down even when you stop ':p'

I discovered just how terrifying a U-turn can be today.

Try it on an ElectraGlide in the wet on a gravelly country lane with half the country's bike press and 2 photographers watching.

I had to repeat this about twenty times.   ':crazy'
