I decided that I’d like to ride to Spain one day and so I had better learn to ride. I booked my CBT having never even sat on a bike, none of my family had ever ridden and I had no idea how a bike worked or anything. The instructor thought that I was nuts & took me on a pillion ride of the car park… I though OMG its like walking but soo much faster, this could be fun. I’d been bobbing around town on my 125cc for about a year when I saw the poster for the Unity ride and that was my first ever ride out. Am on my Bandit training wheels now and am building up to ride to Spain September 2008.
Gosh who dragged this thread up from last year.... funny how time has marched on
Been to Spain and back..... Yeah look at me, I made a dream happen!
And this year I get to give back ....... Unity Ride made a huge impression on me, this year I can help make it happen for other people

the AJS, the James and especially the Norton Dominator.
I was shocked and dismayed when I saw a company calling itself AJS selling chinese motorcycles.
Same factory as all the rest, of course, just like the company calling itself NortonVilliers, selling a 125 called 'Commander'

I just realized I never posted on this thread.....
So....Way back in 1999, I was working at Kodak in Harrow, VERY well paying job, several of the guys there had bikes & I'd always liked em.....following my 1st pillion on a Kawasaki Z900 many years before (Thanks Steve...my mum was so pissed off when she heard I'd been on a bike)
So, I wandered into Colin Collins which was literally behind my house in Harrow, and asked about lessons....
'>
Ended up doing Direct Access (I was a little over 21) and off I went....
3 weeks later I bought the Ducati
'> and started going to a local bike meet (The Travellers MC meet in Ruislip) I knew several of the guys, so it was cool....
Then I was going to go on the Ace Cafe Christmas Toy Run (THE Infamous, unauthorized one....), met Celeste, Colin and a few other rebellious Loose Bolt Bike Club Members & something clicked...I exchanged emails with Celeste, and about a week later....This group was started....
Like mentioned above, I made LOTS of friends, hell, Celeste even put me up for 18 months or so before I moved to the USA....
Had some mega fun ride outs, almost got arrested in Windsor (on a loaner M900), had a 'kin huge crash on an ER-5...Did some big burnouts during the May day run.....
Fun times with good friends....The London Piss Ups were fun...Bar Italia every weekend...Track Day photo sessions....the baggy butt leather gang....I was Manager of the group for a year or so, for those of you who haven't been here that long....
I'm currently bike less, but have been looking at various dealers for a replacement for the Monster, soon......
I find this is still a fun place to be, far better than 'that other one' we share a similar name with....I met the guy who started it at the Ace one night when he was 1st starting it....He said...
I'm manager of a new internet forum called London Bikers, would you like to join?
I replied, actually, I run a group called THE London Bikers..
Oh, he says, thats why I couldn't but
www.thelb.com
web domain name......and wandered off....
'>
So...thats it for now....keep the place fun, and remember folks.....
ITS JUST THE INTERNET.....Go ride a bike

My dad was a biker but crashed a lot. He was in traction in the same hospital when my mum was giving birth to our kid. He now has his shins held together by metal plates (my dad, not our kid). He used to pick me up from school if his shifts allowed and I'd ride pillion, short trousers, no helmet (it was a LONG time ago...)
He had a BSA something-or-other (with leopard-print seat cover), then something that was painted battleship grey, then a fully-enclosed sidecar outfit and much later a CB400 when he briefly returned to biking as a commuting solution.
I was mad on bikes as a kid and was into Evel Knievel and Eddie Kidd but somehow forgot all about it in my teens and could only think of getting a car when I was 17.
What got me back was commuting by train. Hatfield and Potters Bar both caused no end of grief on our line for months (but not as much grief as for the victims, obviously), plus I was in danger of executing the next ignorant moron who put his feet up on the seats or stank the place out with burgers and threw the debris on the floor before wiping his greasy hands on the seat-cushion or forgot to use deodorant in the morning, etc. Aaaaand exhaaaaale...
Convincing the missus was the hardest part (she was a bit shocked when I arrived home on a TT600 instead of the Vespa she was expecting to see) but it's the best thing I've ever done.
