Wanted to float an idea to all regarding the general public just casually browsing our board, and yes it should be available for guests  to browse but do we want most topic areas available.
I’m thinking of days out, RR and a few others to only be available to registered board users, guests are more than welcome to register on the site and then gain full'ish access but at least need to tell us who they are.

This was something I was thinking about. Also IMO rideouts should only be open to those people that have posted at least 5 times. This is not a high number (looking at some of us that post 10+ some days).

I know that we would all love an open all talking site but with Summer here and a lot of us going out riding a couple of times a week it would be sad to have this fun taken away '<img'>
Hope you are making jokes and have a smile on your face my Danish diplomatic friend. Long may your memory live!

The main problems I see with restricting guest access, is that potential new members will look at the boards, can't see any rides or any other events happening and just bugger off somewhere else...
or
We end up with 1000's of people registering just to get access to the full forum...

At the end of the day, if you're that worried about posting something on a free, public internet forum that anyone can read, then don't post it...

Am only thinking of the example our admin made of board members publishing a run and the police using that information in a sting operation, but if your happy who am i to complain. The recent Welsh run is a good example however i do seem to be in the minority on this topic so will shut up.

Ok then Riz...

Seeing as you're not gonna let this go, and now bringing a conversation from the private section onto the main Forum after you was requested not to.

You obviously know what the best for this place far more than I do, so I'll just step down as moderator and let you take over.
Good luck dealing with all the complaints I get about stuff like this and all the off topic posts and drivel that gets posted on the forums now a days.

I really can't be arsed to babysit this place anymore...

Trouty, remove my mod tools please...

wooohoooo, hang on a second. don't do this Steve. We like you being a mod and you do a fantastic job at it, we can't let you do this..... You have been doing this for a long time and IMHO know what is best for this site, you made very good calls in the past and am sure you'll continue doing so, but resigning as a mod wouldn't be one of them. Just my 2 pence.
If you find any spelling mistakes, you can keep them.

dont think you lot appreciate what steve does in moderating this site when he has plenty off other stuff to do in his life he asks people very nicely not to do stuff on here and they still go ahead and do it you might all be sorry if steve resigns from moderating when you end up with someone thats a little less laid back and understanding

this is a good forum but as of late its getting very boring looking at some of the threads being turned into what can only be descibed as a chat room
people start threads for a reason but after about four posts or more the thread is lost on idle chit chat about f all

steve does a brill job in here and deserves more respect
so everyone lets not make things hard work for him so he can enjoy comming in here not a place that he feels is hard work eh !!

there'dbe more environment left to care for if the f*cking vegetarians would stop eating it

Don't do it Steve!

I looked at several sites before signing up with TLB's.....the reason for this was after reading a few threads it was clear that there is good people on here....with great advice and support (using bikes or PC's! ) and a good open environment for discussion.

You were the first person I spoke to down at Boxhill first night I came out to meet y'all and you took the time to tell me all about the site and who does what and what goes on etc....

I can imagine people ask for alot of things that can't be done or complain about certain aspects of the site but I'd say that the vast majority of folk on here are very happy with the Mods, the site, the rules.....the lot!

You do a grand job mate....long may that continue to be the case.

for an experiment, i reckon we should run the site with NO moderation for a week or 2 and see how quickly it goes to rat shite..

how about we meet halfway on this...

we need various forums visible to all, so that potential newbies can make an informed decision as to wether they want to join or not. What if i create an area that is just for members only (say, 10 posts behind their name) and call it the Back Yard, leave it as a completely UNMODERATED area and let you lot do what you want with it...

but meet us half way, and use the other area's for the usual stuff, keep the Back Yard for anything else...

Very good idea Trouty '<img'> . But there must be some rules as "some" people on this site do have minds in the gutter ':p' . Maybe Dodge can be the Mod for this back yard place '<img'> (not taking the pi$$ but Dodge does have a way with words '<img'> )

Steve, you do a great job, but if you wanna let someone else 'hold the ropes' fair enough.

I took over when Celeste stood down, its a rough job, and way under appreciated.

If you decide nows the time, thank you for all you have done.

DM, what you doing '<img'>  IMO Steve has a great balance between letting a joke go on and taking off someones direct trash talk. For me it would be sad if Steve hung up his key board badge '<img'>

Like I said above, been there, done that, got the t-shirt....

Its not easy, if you watched from a Moderator position for a week or two & saw how much shit gets posted & deleted before you ever see it, and how many posts get reported to Mods, hell, when I did it, we had about 1/3rd the forum traffic we do now, and it was a fairly full time job.

Remember, this isn't a paid position, its voluntary....

And I agree, Steve does a GREAT job, but I fully understand his position, I'm not looking to start an argument or anything, just telling it like it is....  '<img'>

quite a few of the other forums I frequent seem to have exactly the same issues as this one, both motorcycling ones and other areas of interest.

Seems to me the problem is that people are prepared to voice their opinions and react to things other people post in a way they would never do face to face.

God knows how anyone can cope with being a moderator under these circumstances '<img'>

No arugment wanted DM '<img'> . But I have seen on the boards when I can't sleep at night a lot of posts that are not there in the morning. Last one was some group call Rough ryders and that was gone before 7am '<img'>
