Mixed paced ride-out
« on: 04, July, 2006, 12:04:56 PM »
Following on from the last Newbie ride-out I propose another one for Thursday evening 13th July, leaving Box Hill at 7.30pm, weather permitting.

I have an idea for a different approach this time to provide some interest for more experienced riders but still catering for the in-experienced, we adhere to all specific posted speed limits (20, 30, 40, etc, black numerals on white background with red surround) but for National Speed limit signs (black line on white background) it will be 'open season', ride at the speed you deem safe and appropriate.

In theory if experienced riders can refrain from caning it on the straights but corner faster and in-experienced riders hold good speed on the straights but are slower in the corners we should all arrive at each rv point at roughly the same time, maybe... '<img'>

Obviously this approach does rely rather heavily on a certain amount of common sense from everyone to avoid total carnage so if you don't have any then best not come.. ':p'

I propose the same route as last time, as it is easy to follow, but if anyone has any other suggestions they would be more than welcome. This time some proper re-grouping (rv) at various points along the way, or at least on the way back, so less risk of anybody getting lost or left behind.

If I can get around to it I'll print up some route maps for everyone with suggested rv points.

Just been thinking about pssobility of a circular route starting/finishing at Box, taking in some A24, A29, A272 etc and staying on decent roads rather than running into any major towns or making any longish stops as this seems to eat into riding time of an evening.

Is anyone fussed about stopping for fish and chips or heading for a town or the coast or will the odd cuppa and a mars bar at layby cafe or garage suffice ?

Personally I'm easy either way, thoughts please ? '<img'>

John after the weather today, this maybe a silly question, but is the ride out still going ahead come rain or shine?

I’m an all weather rider (apart from snow / ice) so I’m happy either way.

I don’t mind regarding route and stops will go with the majority.

It's only really extreme weather that bothers me, very heavy and persistent rain/hail/flooding, dense/freezing fog, thunderstorms or high winds, blizzards, etc

If I can be reasonably sure that I won't end up being the only one there and that there is def no extreme weather forecast then I'll still be going '<img'>

Wicked I’ll be there. What do you ride? I’m on a rizla so you can’t miss me!

Hope you make it Mr Rizla, looking forward to meeting a fellow Rizla. Be there or be square.

See ya.

I'm 6' 3", shaven head, goatee beard and always wear all black gear. I have a blue/black de-badged CBR954RR3 FireBlade with a noisy Scorpion exhaust, pretty difficult to miss '<img'>

Weathers looking good for thursday eve, will be there, hopefully just in time for 7.30pm depending on how late my ex-missus is in picking the kids up  '<img'>

In the spirit of making the most of the (hopefully good) weather, how about something a little ambitious, with a bail-out option to cut it short if its too much...

Start Box Hill, south on A24 and then A29 with RV at Bury Hill

Onwards on A29 to pick up A27 west to come back north on A285 and A283 with RV at Godalming, then either....

1. Continue on A283, A248 then A25 east back to Box Hill

2. Head back south before Guildford on A281, re-join A29 then north back up to A24 and then back to Box.

How about we have a vote when we get to Godalming and take it from there ? '<img'>
