I take it the police are enforcing the red route status of the road and also the 'no parking' on the pavement laws. As far as I am aware this road was a red route before the development of the flats and there has also always been laws about parking on the pavement so the fact that bikers have got away with meeting there so far can only be because of the Police turning a blind eye up until now.
As far as I gathered from the news report the residents association were just after an enforcement of the law as it stands in regard to parking, I don't believe they actually want to stop people meeting there and I don't believe the Police want that either.
Somewhat ironically enforcing the red route and parking laws does not actually address the issue that I believe the residents really have which is in regard to noise, there is still no reason why scooters can't do noisy fly-bys at 2am in the morning as the police don't seem to see this as a priority.
It seems strange to me that the Police don't simply use the powers they have to target the noisy bikes and/or stunting bikes and enforce the red route status of the road (mostly cars parked there anyway) but continue to allow bikes to park on the pavement.
Having had some time to think about it I can't see how any sort of 'protest' will do anything to further the cause of bikers who want to continue to meet at the bridge. I would have thought the simplest way would be to continue to meet at the bridge on foot and show that bikers can be trusted to meet there without upsetting anyone.
Obviously for people who can't see the point of chelsea bridge without the stunting then theres no need to do anything, the Ace is great for that sort of thing, but I am concerned that this may be the thin end of the wedge, there is always a risk that other bike meeting places could come under threat, all over london, that affects everyone.
For anyone who cares it would be worth trying to have as much positive dialogue with the Police at the bridge as well, it all filters through to the people in charge and can only be a good thing.
Just leaves the problem of where to park, there is battersea park after all, if we got some big bolt-croppers.....
