Doesnt a 'protest ride' on the 7th July strike you as being a bit tactless? ''

Particularly as its the same evening as the event at the Ace which was about a rideout for something not as trivial as getting a cup of tea on a friday night? And there's numerous events happening on friday - so we dont need to be upsetting the feds on friday, and the rolling roadblock - even if it were a huge success - would be ignored, or even worse look petty on a day when people will be thinking about rather more important issues.

I dont think everything should stop on 7th July 2006, but neither do I think its appropriate to be 'protesting' against something as trivial as this.

I dont give in to intimidation however your point is valid m8.
Iv had several pm's pointing out this and my hostile postings regarding the Bridge and i need to point out im protesting in a legal manner, I would never do nor encourage others to break the law.
Will be at the Ace on friday to get my copies of the DVD and look forward to viewing it again.

I agree with MattZX9 here. I know that none of us would like any harm to come to the guy with the video and I think we all wish that he would start dating and get out on the town on a Friday '<img'> . If I was single and had the money (judging on location of his flat) he has I'd be panting the town red '<img'>
Hope you are making jokes and have a smile on your face my Danish diplomatic friend. Long may your memory live!

I take it the police are enforcing the red route status of the road and also the 'no parking' on the pavement laws. As far as I am aware this road was a red route before the development of the flats and there has also always been laws about parking on the pavement so the fact that bikers have got away with meeting there so far can only be because of the Police turning a blind eye up until now.

As far as I gathered from the news report the residents association were just after an enforcement of the law as it stands in regard to parking, I don't believe they actually want to stop people meeting there and I don't believe the Police want that either.

Somewhat ironically enforcing the red route and parking laws does not actually address the issue that I believe the residents really have which is in regard to noise, there is still no reason why scooters can't do noisy fly-bys at 2am in the morning as the police don't seem to see this as a priority.

It seems strange to me that the Police don't simply use the powers they have to target the noisy bikes and/or stunting bikes and enforce the red route status of the road (mostly cars parked there anyway) but continue to allow bikes to park on the pavement.

Having had some time to think about it I can't see how any sort of 'protest' will do anything to further the cause of bikers who want to continue to meet at the bridge. I would have thought the simplest way would be to continue to meet at the bridge on foot and show that bikers can be trusted to meet there without upsetting anyone.

Obviously for people who can't see the point of chelsea bridge without the stunting then theres no need to do anything, the Ace is great for that sort of thing, but I am concerned that this may be the thin end of the wedge, there is always a risk that other bike meeting places could come under threat, all over london, that affects everyone.

For anyone who cares it would be worth trying to have as much positive dialogue with the Police at the bridge as well, it all filters through to the people in charge and can only be a good thing.

Just leaves the problem of where to park, there is battersea park after all, if we got some big bolt-croppers.....

Thing is, they set a precident by turning a blind eye for so many years, then they have a rethink due to political pressure from that arse licking MP and lockdown, after they did nothing for years and years, is this two faced or what...

Like I said, this used to be a regular problem years ago, but the police approach was very different then. They didn't use to move people on, they'd just nick the people doing wheelies and other stuff and leave everyone else alone.

I guess they are not so prepared to go chasing after people like they used to.

Burger, the petty comment was referring to the relevant significance of the date and how 53 people don't have the choice about protesting over their rights.

quite so, this friday is one day in particular when the met police should be cut a bit of slack and shown a bit of respect by everyone, imho.

most of us are out for drinks on friday night,l propose we all meet up on saturday night (at least for a couple of hours)
remove our number plates and park our bikes stand side close against the bridge (so tax discs cannot be seen) chain each bike together (so that they cannot be removed) and enjoy a chat and a cup of tea.
This way at least there is a presence, the likelihood of being ticketed is remote and the chance of being towed is remote..
I'll go. but there needs to be a bit of support.
Can someone post on london bikers.co.uk and see how they feel about playing?

true riz, but i cant just curl up and die... maybe if we turned up and put a notice on the tea hut asking other riders to keep the noise and disturbances down to a minumum after 9pm to avoid plod visits. Im sure that if everyone played the game the bobbies would take a much brighter view on us
