Rideout to wales
« on: 20, June, 2006, 04:47:20 PM »
Full days riding to Wales probably covering somewhere around 500miles.  Means meeting at Oxford 6am (It will be worth it) then heading off to some good roads around Newtown.  There are some amazing roads in Wales as im sure you guys know.  Spoke to Edd not confirmed which Sunday yet.  Will be riding at a good pace.

Come on Nurburg gang and anyone else who fancies it.  Weather permitting of course will depend on which Sunday.

More details to follow let me know.  Cant wait!!!!!   '<img'>

Hmmm tempting though I doubt I could keep up with ya all or will ya wait for me!  Think his lordship might like it (not the early start though) but at the mo he can't ride - hopefully that won't be for too long!'<img'> '<img'>

Not the 30th July DM - that's the ride for Ali.

I will have to wait and see who wins the game on 1 July. Otherwise, this sounds like a fun run '<img'>
Hope you are making jokes and have a smile on your face my Danish diplomatic friend. Long may your memory live!

Would be up for this dependimg on date, but why such an early start?
Which bits of Wales are you planning to visit?
Don't mind meeting at 8am, can still cover 500 miles at a reasonable pace with plenty of stops and be back home by 6pm ish ':p'
Are you talking about 500 miles from Oxford as I am about 60 miles from Oxford services, takes about an hour from Kent ''
More information please!!

Early start because No traffic

Route not confirmed but it will cover A483!!!

Early start for Edd and I as i know the traffic starts picking up but can meet you somewhere if you want to come later.  We can set an intercept course.
500 miles all round just an idea prob may be a little more.
Was going to meet at Oxford somewhere to be confirmed for 6.00am.
Also if footie is on then we are still going as the roads will be even emptier.

I will give more info when i got it.

Coooollll  Hoep this helps a bit

The plan for the Wales trip goes like this:
Meet at Oxford services A34/A44 junction at 6am. Take A44 west and head for Newtown (120 miles). Short break there before taking on some challenging roads on route to Aberystwyth,(70 miles) here we can have another break before some more top roads leading back to Newtown,(70 miles) were we can stop again and allow the old ticker to recover, before starting the run back to Oxford.     (140 miles) I have planned in Fuel stops at no more than 100 miles apart, as long as we all fill up at Oxford there should no need for extra stops. Taking into consideration all stops and the anticipated average speed we should get back to Oxford by 4pm. It is going to be a long and very tiring day, 400 miles plus the travel to Oxford and back, for me that means setting off at 4.30am, but I did a similar run last year and it was one of the best days I've had on a bike for years. For those that are put of by the early start, trust me it is worth it to get on the best roads before the cars come out to spoil our fun. If you live to ride your bike fast on some of the best roads in the country then get your name down. As for the dates I would ask that any body intrested, choose between the 2nd and the 9th July and we will go with the most popular one.
Yea though I ride through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. My wonderful Ducati.

Ill get up at 4.30am and leave for Oxford around 5am coming from Chigwell prob go round the A406.  Hopefully weather wont let us down.  I think we should know by 30th Friday about the weather for the 2nd and also get some idea what its doing in the week for the 9th.

MCN reported 2 deaths on the A483 last weekend so just keep em peeled!

Sounds like it'll be quite a blast and I'm well up for it if the weather not too grim, don't mind the odd shower mind.

Can only do 9th, though its not looking like I have anything likely to crop up on that sunday so I should be able to do it at a few days notice '<img'>

OK, got PM thanks DangerM.  Sunday 9th sounds great to me as long as I get back to the Smoke before 1900 hours (I think there's a big game of football on or sumfink!'<img'>.  Bikes in the shop at the moment getting new fork seals and hopefully a new rear spring (apparently I weigh too much for the old one.....oooh!'<img'>.  Still, picking it up tomorrow, setting up the loaded sag (the bike not my gut!'<img'> so will hopefully have a sweeter handling bike for a lovely Wales trip!!!!

Can we go to Llanddewi Brefi......?  ':p'

Give it a go.  Were not riding the TT just be enjoying the good roads and ride as quick as you feel comfortable with.  We can always regroup futher up if needed.

On a seperate note if 2nd is going to be dry which it looks like it will be we may go then.  We could find that if we miss 2nd and its a nice day then the week after it could be crap and then have to replan later.  As the longest day has just gone and weve got to get up early seems common sense that we try and make the 2nd if the weathers guaranteed.

Can anyone make the 2nd??  Please please!!! '<img'>

why not go on the 20/21st and drop in at the Aberdare road races? it's the last this kind of thing and they really do race round footpaths in a public park (with straw bales protecting the trees!!'<img'>

Looking like I'll be most likely having my kids over that weekend, which is a drag as if you were going on the 2nd I was going to try and hook up with the cornwall trip for a couple of days then join you lot part way on the sunday, all looking unlikely now though so I can only do 9th '<img'>

Friday is forecast for 27°C so should be a glorious day on Sunday 2nd. I can make it and can meet at the Ace for the ride to Oxford if anybody is interested.
