----- ride in memory of ali ------
« on: 15, June, 2006, 06:24:41 PM »

On 1st March 2006 we sadly lost a fellow rider, Ali aka Full Throttle, to a tragic accident on his bike. Links at the end of the post for those new to the site or those who werent around when it happened.

In his memory, a considerable effort has been made to have a permanent memorial for Ali in form of a tree in Regents Park.
So in memory of Ali we have organised a ride out in conjuction with LB, as his birthday (21st bday) would have been a few days after the rideout (4th August) and would be a good opportunity to raise the remaining money needed for the tree. Details:

Date:

30th July 2006. Its a Sunday and we are hoping of clear skies, fingers crossed.

The route:
Courtesy of Weaver and Steve - big thank you

10:00am: Meet at Silver Ball on A10 for breakfast at - link below:

http://www.transportcafe.co.uk/silver_ball_transport_cafe_reed.html

11:00am: Leave SB

A10 down to A120 turn off towards Bishops Stortford.

Follow A120 to junction with A130.

Then follow A130 to Junction with A127  (there is a bit of A12 in the middle here) and follow that to Southend.

The last bit getting into Southend is where peeps might get split up so if everyone follows the signs to the seafront - apparently bikes can be parked on the central reservation - and we should all find each other.

We are hoping for 3 main groups. A fast group, intermediate and chilled group. More details on this to follow

Last bit:

Anyone who would like to participate contributes a nominal £5 towards the tree. As for pillions, if you would like to donate, its up to you, if not, no worries, you're still welcome.

We are hoping for a fun day out and to remember our fallen friend, we ask everyone to wear a black armband.

There's enough time so lets try and get as many people together so we can all have a fun day out.

Many thanks, Sam.

Hi All,

Can I just add to this please - would you mind awfully if you are planning to come along posting in which group you would rather ride and what is your bike?  If you are not a member of the other forum - post it here and I will add you to the list oon the other forum and then publish the full list here every now and then so peeps can see what is happening.  We obviously need to know numbers to see a) if we will need a fourth group and b) to warn the Silver Ball to get in extra eggs and bacon!

There is no intention to do any silly riding - particularly in view of the reason for the ride, but we are expecting a lot of people amd therefore need to split into groups for safety and to make everyone gets to Southend!  As Sam said the plan is thre groups:  Group 1 (chillded) for riders who want to pootle along.  A middle group of lightly more experienced riders who may go a little faster - this will be led by moi on my GS500 and the tailgunner is my hubbs.  Then there will be abother group for advanced/very experienced riders.

Hope to see oads of you there!

Thanks

Hi,

I am new to this forum just registered and new to biking also, very sad to hear and read Ali's story. I would love to take part but I live in London.

If anyone leaving from London towards the Silver Ball then maybe we can arrange a meeting, otherwise could meet at Southend as I have easy access to the A12.

Hi Drei - we have some peeps who have bikers that are running in, or are very novice riders or ride 125s so we wanted to have a group led and tail gunned by experienced riders where they could feel OK and go along at their own pace.     Not that, given the reason for the ride, anyone is likely to be going silly, but it's nice for people not to feel they are holding anyone up.
